Forgot to mention ..Tellmesomethinggirl throwing her hat in the ring to steal Honeysuckle’s crown by winning EBF Mares Hurdle unchallenged.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 20, 2021 at 11:10 #1531467I am actually disgracefully, still in bed having a glorious lie in and on my second cup of tea. I’m reading all the news.
I was able to watch most of the big races – unfortunately my time is compromised by those with special needs – not a horse rider amongst them though – rather people who need wheels.
From a selfish perspective I liked the simplicity of the first day and the small fields as I had time to analyse them and I had my first small bets in over a year and I had a lot of fun with the large jigsaw that is Cheltenham – always difficult and full of surprises.
The bits I saw lived up to my high expectations, from several angles, and I may add further words when I have got my bits on and am in respectable state of dress.
March 20, 2021 at 11:22 #1531473It’s not that difficult Clive with the XX rating, to work out who might have been offended by your rather warped sense of humour.
( Correction – I once reported myself – mistakenly)
March 20, 2021 at 11:36 #1531481The worst renewal since Cheltenham became a Festival. Obviously no spectaors but also several small fields and the complete domination of Irish-trained horses (ideally there would be an equal balance) which rendered the British NH season a virtual irrelevance – not healthy for the future of the sport in Britain.
March 20, 2021 at 12:40 #1531504Golden is right but I never see Cheltenham as a battleground of bottle throwing fans.
To sum up, now I am dressed. I’ll give it foive !
1. The lifting of the Covid curse veil and seeing it fluttering heavenward.
2. The conspiracy theories behind the missing two words that were like two black clouds scudding across the crouching menace screen in the corner.
3.Watching Ginger’s Dad and my second half enjoying watching Blackmore issuing her ‘See you later’ message in French – in the big Gold one.
4. Put the Kettle on steaming Vintage Clouds in a tea party to savour where the guests really started running when a tiger came to tea.
5.Envoi concluding his eleven piece Mozart set with Beethoven’s V’th and bringing the Chantry House down to the merriment of the composer Paul quarter of a million sobs Dean.
March 20, 2021 at 12:50 #1531507I am no fun to live with at all, gamble, as evidenced by the fact I happily choose to live alone, but then it has never been my life’s mission to entertain others, so it’s all good.
I haven’t reported it either – I would resent losing the five seconds of my life it would take me to do it.
I wasn’t offended by it personally – though tbh I wasn’t amused by it either.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 20, 2021 at 14:14 #1531532Upside; the acceleration off the final bend of Honeysuckle, the breathtaking way Allaho attacked his fences.
Downside; too many championship races, so small and less competitive fields. The Ryanair deprived us of the Gold Cup winner a few years ago (Vautour), and this year the 2 mile winner (Allaho)March 20, 2021 at 14:39 #1531540Shishkin was my personal highlight. He comes across as a hybrid of Sprinter Sacre and Altior.
All the “Oohs” and “Ahs” about Rachael Blackmore became a bit overbearing IMO. Four of her six winning horses would’ve won with just about any other jockey. Jack Kennedy was my rider of the meeting.

Please feel free to respond with a big bold CapsLock ‘none of your business pal’ but during an earlier resurfacing on TRF didn’t you inform us that your partner had given birth to a son? If so, in light of the admission you now live alone, I do hope all’s okay
I’m great fun and loved by everyone of course
but have chosen to live alone for most of my adult life: two’s company I can enjoy for limited periods but three is most definitely a crowd I prefer to shunI suspect that the ‘serious punter’ cohort taken as a whole registers further towards the introverted and asocial (NOT antisocial) end of the personality spectrum than do the public en masse
We asocial introverts have had a relatively easy year: every dog has its day
Off topic: so sorry mods
March 20, 2021 at 20:22 #1531598A shout for Monkfish. Not on his A game, jumped badly, still won by 6+ lengths. Appreciate It & Shishkin too. Much to look forward to. Put The Kettle On (not just because she’s my star horse in the TRF 10 to follow) and Vintage Clouds & Cloudy Glen, both of whom have featured in my various 10 to follow lists without success in past years (but not THIS year). Still happy to see them doing well though.
I also have to live alone. Wouldn’t say it’s a choice, just the lesser of two evils (having tried both options). Never reported any post on this forum (in case anyone is interested). I am fun to live with for 2 days max. After that…
March 21, 2021 at 01:54 #1531614A person who says he’s fun to live with, like I did – is probably suffering delusional behaviour and could be a bigger bore than the river Severn.
Minella Indo was an unpopular winner on here, but what I can tell you is he really loved the ground peachily more than the two behind and that sealed his fate. He won his first race really well, a point to point which stayed in his memory. Jack Kennedy came back from his Envoi death to defy the odds. He made fools of the tipsters
March 21, 2021 at 08:20 #1531631I rather like the River Severn – when it’s behaving itself.
I seem to remember sitting on some decking at Worcester racecourse one sunny spring afternoon and admiring it in passing.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 21, 2021 at 10:17 #1531666My abiding memory of Cheltenham this year was summed up by the Champion Chase. The hyped horse in this case Chacun Pour Soi failing to win, a gutsy win and well deserved by Put The Kettle On. Also I’ve said this on the Champion Chase thread, Paul Nicholls withdrawing POLITOGOLUE after a nose bleed. With all the bad publicity given to racing concerning Gordon Elliot, I thought Paul had done the right thing and hope it wasn’t too serious for Politologue.
Rachael Blackmore too had a smashing week, just a bit sad she she couldn’t top it off with a win in the Gold Cup but I felt she give it her best, maybe the National if she gets a ride.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.March 21, 2021 at 11:52 #1531691Just an oddity really, but I was amused by the look of utter horror on the face of Rachel Blackmore as the horses pulled up after the line in the Gold Cup. The other riders were all moving to congratulate the winner, but she looked like someone had just kidnapped her first born and stayed stoney faced and distant.
And I thought, good for you girl, that’s why you’re the best – single minded and no delight in finishing second.
March 21, 2021 at 12:12 #1531698I’m with APRacing, were I a jockey, no way would I ever congratulate a winner and no way would I give ever two ****s whether any of them congratulated me when I won.
They are the perpetual opposition.
Rachael Blackmore is just brilliant.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 21, 2021 at 12:23 #1531699Watching the interview with her mother, she stressed how competitive Rachael Blackmore was even as a small child when she would always want to match or outdo her older brother. Maybe something inbuilt in her make-up that somehow, subconsciously, provides the drive and desire.
March 21, 2021 at 12:34 #1531702Unfortunately my memory of this years Festival will be negative as to how uncompetitive some of the races turned out to be.Especially the novice hurdle divisions where I’m used to seeing large fields and a lively betting market whatever ‘the experts’ may say about such & such a horse being a good thing!
This attitude also seemed to seep over to Kempton yesterday where you had a £15,000 race but only a single horse declared. How can owners & trainers complain about prize money when such an opportunity can be left go begging?
Although I have to agree with others about Blackmore being a bright spot.
