TRAWLERMAN 8/1 Hills
Shorter everywhere else has win at York before also had a run at Meydan so should expect him to come on for it.
May 11, 2025 at 14:06 #1730103On “form” Trawlerman’s odds should be a lot shorter if he turns up, Darren.
Kept fresh of late and has quite a good record fresh (away from Dubai).
Connections might not want a run this close to Royal Ascot.Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2025 at 05:06 #1730347Rebel Romance surely outclasses this field even over trip bit longer than normal .
On slight downgrade now as i assume thats why they bypassed the big one in HK on Sunday but hes not that far off that these will trouble him .11/8 seems generous .May 16, 2025 at 08:18 #1730482wouldn’t be surprised Buick goes from the front even over this longer trip and drops anchor while dictating. Just slightly to short for me to back but look forward to watching the race
May 16, 2025 at 08:39 #1730484Pity Kyprios doesn’t come over for this, instead of running in an egg-and-spoon race this evening.
May 16, 2025 at 09:52 #1730488Rebels Romance is the best horse in the race, but the 5 lb penalty means he’s not as far clear as you might think of a multiple Group 1 winner. Going up in trip is a question mark, but although by Dubawi out of a Street Cry mare, there is stamina in the tail female line… And the fact he’s been a “middle distance” horse without racing at shorter than 11 furlongs in his last 17 starts… Suggests connections believe he’s a stayer at middle distances. imo Should get it. Especially as there doesn’t seem to be any other pace in the race (and the going both) place the emphasis on speed. Could have a positional advantage – dictating – depends on Continuous.
Continuous is blinkered for the first time. Is that a sign Ryan is going to do something different to what the horse usually does… and front runs? To both annoy the favourite and ensure a greater test of stamina? Seems to need one these days. Twice he’s tried front running since his debut, odds-on failure in the Foy and 10th of 11 (admittedly over an inadequate trip) in the Champion. Maybe the blinkers will keep him interested and bring a resurgence? If producing his St Leger form would have a great chance at the weights, but has been fairly consistent at a lower level for a while. Appears the one most likely to at least hassle the fav early and tbh has pretty much no chance in a slowly run race. So if I were Ryan I would take a chance and go forward today.
Ah the enigmatic Sweet William. Will he put it in today? Hates to lead and needs exaggerated waiting tactics. That said, this six year old has never been out of the first three in his life and has managed at least a couple of victories in the last two seasons. So maybe I am being unkind. Unusually for him, proved he can race handily (if not leading) when a good 2 1/4 lengths second to easy winner Kyprios when last seen in the British Champions Long Distance Cup. Has also been effective first time out. But his 3 lb penalty won’t make things easy.
Alsakib is the outsider but isn’t out of things on his Silver and Old Rowley Cup form. Has been well backed this morning at biggish prices. However, he’s invariably a hold up horse and will need to rely on Continuous ensuring a good pace. I also have doubts about being effective first time out and the suspicion is he’s at his very best on softer. That said, I had similar thoughts about the in form Andrew Balding’s Flora Of Bermuda in the sprint this week… And he almost won.
Epic Poet was 4 lengths in front of Continuous in the Dubai Gold Cup (at levels) last time out. The former finishing three lengths third to Dubai Future. David O’Meara doesn’t have many winners, tends to try his horses in the best grade he can. But three winners @ 15/8, 11/2 and 17/2 and two good seconds in his last 15 runners suggests he’s in very good form. This is Epic Poet’s ground too. Hopefully Tudhope won’t have him too far away. 9/1 last night. Even the 7/1 at time of writing looks excellent value imo.
I’ve backed Epic Poet with a saver on Rebels Romance.
If Continuous goes up to challenge the favourite early, then I might look to get out of the saver in running. Depending on the price.EDIT: The money for Continuous this morning suggests Ryan is going to take on the favourite. So I can see Rebels Romance having an icicle up against his name by off time.
