King seems pretty genuine both to his jockeys and owners.
Hutchinson is IMO definitely the better jockey. He’s able to slowly creep horses into races, whereas as Thornton often struggles to get them jumping. Whereas Hutchinson is quite a still, motionless rider, Thornton is having to be more active because his mounts seemingly jump pretty poorly at times.
Couldn’t the same thing be said about AP?
I would agree that Hutchinson is increasingly the more reliable of ther two.
November 19, 2013 at 21:56 #459047I think King is easing Choc out of the no1 job gracefully, without actually saying he’s been replaced. All credit to him. Choc empties my confidence in his mounts chances, I reluctantly backed Raya Star on Sunday and he never looked confident at the fences, nor did the horse!
Carraig Mor is a superstar in the making, if I was lucky enough to own him, Choc would be leading him up, Hutch would be on board!November 20, 2013 at 01:38 #459074I don’t think Kingy has much say in the matter. If a lot of his owners want Hutch then Starsky won’t get the rides.
Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2013 at 14:00 #459525Losing on a 1/8 shot in the first at Ascot – even though the horse blundered badly – won’t have helped Mr. Thornton’s cause any.
And no, before you ask, I don’t back any horse at that price.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 23, 2013 at 14:52 #459536Despite the commentary suggesting otherwise the horse was never quite travelling or jumping with the same exuberance he showed at Uttoxeter. I suspect genuine soft ground is very important to him. Although not always falling too many horses are making serious errors under Thornton and perhaps the most disappointing aspect of today’s debacle was that he immediately appeared to panic rather than give the horse time to recover. You have to think many jockeys would have won despite that error.
November 29, 2013 at 16:13 #460158Another howler today at the last, though luckily the horse still won (Wilde Blue Yonder).
December 28, 2013 at 23:32 #463335After Wilde blue yonder today I think King’s patience must be wearing thin with him. The horse jumped well until put under pressure by Thornton who seemed to panic when McCoy came back at him. He still looked the winner when he came down.
