Fighting Fifth or Hattons Grace?
Or has anything else been up there in terms of jump racing this term? Poor.
November 30, 2014 at 16:41 #497005Slightly harsh there’s just not enough good quality hurdlers around. Last week’s race at Haydock set out to ruin the Fighting Fifth, and with Annie Power injured the Hattons Grace was poorer without her.
November 30, 2014 at 22:35 #497029Cracking racing all the same at Fairyhouse Phil , I reckon Willie will clean up in both countries , such is the firepower at his disposal
The jumping game is just sublime

No qualms there whatsoever, very enjoyable sport today. When you think of say, a ‘Grade 1 animal’, none that contested the race today would have sprung to mind..
December 1, 2014 at 00:28 #497048Nicky Richards joked on ATR that he considered pulling The French Furze out of retirement given the state of the Fighting Fifth!

I think the Fighting Fifth was the lesser race of the pair. Of the first three, we had a winner who will probably need further, a second who might not be placed in the Mares’ Hurdle and what is probably somewhere between the 10th and 20th best two miler in the Mullins yard right now.
At least some half solid semi-G1 animals fought out the Hatton’s Grace. Lieutenant Colonel had won a G2 by 10 lengths, Jetson is a (albeit weak) G1 winner, Zaidpour is consistent in good company and Little King Robin is no slouch.
December 1, 2014 at 08:47 #497055The Hattons grace …ended up looking like a soft G1 …but still a romantic result
I am fairly sure neither of the winners of Newcastle or Fairyhouse races mentioned ,,will get within an asses roar of Faugheen and pals currently eyeing the champion hurdle
But who cares , they will win more races along the way and give us enormous pleasure whilst they do !!!
December 1, 2014 at 09:48 #497062I don’t think Sandra Hughes would lose any sleep if it were to be announce that the Hattons Grace was the worst grade 1 of all time in the history of the world, fantastic result for her.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 1, 2014 at 16:21 #497099Too many similar hurdle races in the last week or so, just diluted the quality of each race.
It will be interesting to see how the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton shapes up
December 1, 2014 at 16:54 #497103The Royal Bond was not exactly a stellar G1 either. I know the sad demise of Allez Colombieres was a big contributor to this but behind Nichols Canyon, who put in a much improved performance, they looked a weak bunch.
Last year’s John Durkan turned into a procession for Arvia Ligeonniere with Flemestar a non runner and Sir Des Champs falling early. What had looked a top class race beforehand couldn’t have been won any more easily. The 2012 renewal was another three runner race with Bog Warrior a non runner so hopefully this weekend’s race will see a bigger turnout.
