Interestinng Pru regarding the jumps handicappers
The polytrack stuff needs pasting to the Fibresand thread imo;)
September 25, 2006 at 22:51 #77520I use jumps timefigures myself now, though with some reservations.
The doubts about their applicability tend to be offset by the edge to be gained on occasions due to the vast majority of people choosing to ignore them.
I particularly like timefigures for bumper horses, running in bumpers and even more when tried over jumps. They can help a lot in sorting the wheat from what is a vast amount of chaff.

I researched standard times and timefigures over jumps for Timeform a couple of years back but left just before completing my work. Timeform now take the view – which they are entitled to – that the widespread publication of jumps timefigures is not a worthwhile enterprise.
That still has not stopped the majority (all?) of their jumps handicappers in living memory from using time comparisons when they have seemed valid as a tool in their calculations.
Thanks for that info Prufrock.
On a couple of occasions I have approached Timeform about the possibility of introducing NH timefigures and/or the publication of standard times but their replies were a deal less informative than yours – along the lines of ‘we have no plans to introduce these, thank you and goodnight’
