Sam- the expression predates Gary Player by many years. In fact, there was a very similar saying traced back as far as the sixteenth century.
I’m a Great Believer in Luck. The Harder I Work, the More Luck I Have
Anyway, let’s all enjoy this tournament for what it is: a real showcase for women’s sport and a great success; and, with sincere apologies to our German friends, let’s hope that England lift the trophy on Sunday evening.
July 29, 2022 at 17:42 #1609356Home advantage is significant, so I think 5/6 England to lift the trophy is worth a few quid. I accept England were perhaps fortunate to beat Spain, but sticking on a big centre-forward and lamping the ball into the box, esp against a smaller team, is a time-honoured tactic.
July 29, 2022 at 18:32 #1609369I’m hoping Ellen White can score a double hattrick so I win the golden boot and can use the freebets on something else…

The England women have trained hard and hence the luck has gone their way.Nathan simply classic, but how did Blind Dave know which ball was in his pocket?
July 29, 2022 at 19:01 #1609375Because he can hear the balls drop into the pocket
and his first question is “that’s not the white is it”?
I silently nod my head to which he raises his voice “NEVER GET NO LUCK AT GAME”!!Charles Darwin to conquer the World

The BBC does not agree. After England defeated Norway 8-0, BBC presenter Eilidh Barbour drew attention to the fact that the starting eleven and their substitutes were all white, which (in her opinion and presumably the opinion of her bosses) raised serious questions about diversity.
I always thought you should pick the best available team…

Yes but why is the best available team all white
July 31, 2022 at 09:46 #1609621The ethnicity question is INACCURATE to say the least. The squad makes the team in any sport not the other way round and I will leave it there.
Today’s game.
Germany look very strong indeed and the fact that they won 6-2 in a previous knockout encounter suggests they could have too much firepower today.
My take on this match Germany to score two plus goals.
Sky bet say they will payout on a win to any side that gets a two goal lead at ANYTIME in the 90.
Bearing in mind the swedes could have scored inside thirty seconds in the semi final and the England women have their work cut out here and while I really want an open exciting tussle between two well balanced sides teetering on extra time, Germany could put this to bed very quickly. Beth Mead to have a shot on target in 90 minutes is a standout special @ evens ( probably limited to a tenner).
POPP is score at anytime is a likely given.
Germany to win at 2/1, with wager paid out on that two goal lead happening.
I hope I’m wrong.July 31, 2022 at 12:34 #1609637My first visit to this thread which shamefully I have not read.
I just had a bet on Germany 2.2 on the outright.
I think patriotism has resulted in the wrong favourite going into this match.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 31, 2022 at 16:45 #1609679There was something about Gerhard “The Bomber” Muller about the the two German goals in the semi-finals and form would suggest they will clinically defeat the English opposition shortly. What was surprising in the semis was how tired some of the German defenders looked quite early in that game. There is some hope for England with their day recovery advantage if they can tire the Germans out without conceding early. A german sending-off might also be a key to an English victory given how utterly professional, ruthless and even cynical some of it can be so the Ukranian ref will be a factor. The German mental make-up might just a little fragile in the Wembley cauldron and I hope they can contain any goal celebrations. In the circumstances I was not tempted to back Germany but I went for 2.50 overs at a stingy 11/10 with PP. Enjoy the goals and any howlers!
July 31, 2022 at 16:47 #1609680Well spotted the 1966 link!!!
Luckily the technology will negate most shows of bias to the Germans….July 31, 2022 at 19:53 #1609687There’s a lot of joy out there.
Germany was certainly the value but home advantage was possibly underscored.
I backed Germany and the draw in the 90 minutes. ( -3 +3 +3 profit/ loss in pounds)
I had £1 on 1-0 0-1 and when England scored I backed the 1-1 draw at about 4-1 for £1. After 90 minutes I backed Germany in the outright £2 @ about 2.1 approx, then laid them off to £1 at about 1.9 later roughly – would have won £1.30 on the the Deutsch and lost £1 on England. Ended up £3.71 or thereabouts in profit. 3 or 4 days sustenance.
write that down !July 31, 2022 at 20:02 #1609688Betfair had a few problems – I kept getting logged out.

Now the papers want to know whose Bras you wear!!”They did themselves justice totally and the genie is well and truly out of the bottle and the implications for sport in this country for youngsters is seismic.

Is it though? The same argument was used after all the gold medals at the London Olympics but there is no evidence it has made the country more sport orientated or healthy.

Most of those sports already had funding and opportunity to partake. This really is a different kettle of fish, up until now the sport has patronised and barely tolerated women’s football hoping it would go away. Remember, it was banned not that long ago.
Now the professional clubs have to embrace it they have no choice.
For the elite women’s game, the wages will rise, and sponsorship will come in.
It is not at all straight forward but the opportunity for girls to take up the game will increase markedly.
MY FINAL SAY on the matter though IS THIS.
Wait and see where it goes, Women’s football will go mainstream whatever that means, with that I guess will also come the issues that plagues the men’s game. So I guess the rough will have to be taken with the smooth. But it is a journey the women wanted and good on them for storming the battlements. - AuthorPosts
