Big fields and competitive handicaps the order of the day at Wolverhampton this evening. This all weather racing seems very popular with owners and trainers if the 145 runners engaged at the Dunstall Park venue are anything to go by, and us punters…well we love it. <!– s8) –>

I will be taking the great man on with…
18:20 Wolverhampton Noble Jack
18:50 Wolverhampton Mother Jones
19:20 Wolverhampton Piper’s Lass
19:50 Wolverhampton Restless Bay
20:20 Wolverhampton Christingle
20:50 Wolverhampton Light From Mars
21:20 Wolverhampton CristaliyevGood stuff Jeremy!
…are you having that one Ricky? <!– s:) –>

August 6, 2012 at 17:16 #409096The prizemoney for all races meets the tariff. It’s no surprise the meeting is popular with connections. Trying to find a turf course with suitable ground is very difficult at the moment particularly where the going changes from g/f at the start of the meeting to waterlogged after the third race as it did at Chester yesterday.
We won’t be running on the AW again though (at least not in this country).
August 7, 2012 at 08:36 #409140Cav , looks like I have got to …you cant argue with those numbers
Truly phenomenal ….145 runners …chasing so little money
good luck to you if you are punting on it

…or ceaseless prattle, for them’s that are less charitable.

PS Must confess I only did the first five races, as the number of runners was too many for one analyst’s shift (allocation of between 50 and 60). A fun shift to do, either way, and not the worst card ever assembled at Dunstall Park by any means.

The chicken or the egg?
August 7, 2012 at 21:12 #409185I take Tuffers point that the meeting has met the tariff, but fail to see how this card is anything to celebrate.
Perhaps I am being obtuse , but the fact that so many horses / connections are attracted by what is on offer here gives me real cause for concern.
It may set the pulses of others racing in a positive way, but it sets alarm bells ringing for me. Perhaps its my age !!October 2, 2012 at 07:35 #22727AW racing to the rescue today after Folkestone went under last week.
“Where would be be without it?” chimed handlers of the luminosity of Gosden, Stoute, Hannon, Simcock, Cumani, Meehan, who all send runners there today.
Punters licking their lips at the prospect of the three double digit runner competitive handicaps to be run at the Dunstall venue this afternoon.
“Sir” Ricky Lake equally enraptured.
oh yes
October 2, 2012 at 11:41 #414915Not such a bad card as it happens
wont be indulging though , good luck to all who do

October 2, 2012 at 12:59 #414924I think it’s a shame that the poor quality and the surface have been conflated. The racing isn’t poor quality because it’s on the AW, it’s poor quality because the races are framed that way. It would be just as poor quality if the same races were held on turf.
I’m in general a big fan of AW surfaces and I don’t imagine anyone would denigrate the racing at Deauville or Dundalk in the way they do Dunstall Park.
