Samcro and Sharjah basically out for a strole around Down Royal. Disappointing its down to 4 horses. Sharjah likes a strong gallop and the quick ground should suit him; he will most likely have to make the running and that should set it up nicely for Samcro. I feel Sharjah will have to lead or he’ll be pulling like mad; Samcro just seems to settle so well.
Sharjah is up to 155 after his Galway win and he has an 8lb claim on Samcro because it’s a Grade 2 so on ratings and weights it should be far from a strole for Samcro. Sharjah is a speedy hurdler and 2 miles on good ground is ideal for him and he’s fit as well after taking in 2 runs on the flat; it’s just a pity theres no obvious front runner to set a good pace for him. You’d imagine Samcro will have improved way past his 160 rating and if he has I can’t see Sharjah giving him any trouble.
Sharjah to lead them out; Samcro to go past him just before the last hurdle and then Jack will take him home handy to win by 5 or 6.
November 1, 2018 at 23:35 #1379256You’re probably right about Sharjah needing something to run at. I really liked his run up the hill at Galway but the finish at Down Royal is not tough. Still might give Samcro a race getting 8lb. He was walloped by Samcro at Leopardstown last year but that was on soft, the start after he’d had a heavy fall and the age gap would have been more significant then. Might put something on him tomorrow.

Fair play to Bedrock, looks like they sold him a day earlyGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 2, 2018 at 22:37 #1379426Even allowing for the fact he needed to the run, for me that must surely close the book on any CH aspirations but he will probably be given another chance.
Most of his form is on soft/heavy ground (one flat race on good to yeilding) and whilst he layed up well with Sharjah he looked a bit short of pace when the quickened – to me his future is chasing and with no 2.5m championship hurdle race at Cheltenham I would start looking for novice chases.
Winner won it fair and square and turned round the Galway Hurdle form with Sharjah, who I was quite surprised that they led with him as being an ex-flat horse I would have thought a slowly run tactical race may have suited him the best.
You would imagine the winner will do well in the states with the likely quicker ground and the lesser type of rivals he will face out there.
