I did promise to post the supposed winning form numbers taken fro Ricky Taylor’s book PROFITABLE BETTING SYSTEMS FOR HORSERACING.

The numbers are broken down from different racing categories which may prove significant.

However before doing so, I also mentioned David Duncan compiled similar form figures within his book, THE COMPLETE MANUAL OF RACING AND BETTING SYSTEMS. his figures are not sectioned but form part of his "Best of the Press" system which suggests backing any chosen newspaper tipster where the selection has the advised form figures, and so I shall start with his tables.

    Last three outings: –

    011 121 321 421

    101 112 122 221

    311 211 114 131

    111 411

    Two career outings only: –

    11 31 21 41

    One career outing only: –

    1

I will in the next posting list Ricky Taylor’s figure compilation but it is significant to note the value of previous finnishes not being beyond fourth.

Here are some interesting percentage figures taken from Ricky Taylor’s book.

(One point of interest being the book was published 2008)

Finishing position from last start and percentage WIN from next start: –

    1st = 16.9%. 2nd = 17.2%. 3rd = 13.2%

Finishing position of 2nd from last start and % WIN on next start: –

    1st = 13.9%. 2nd = 14.3%. 3rd = 12.3%

Finishing position of 3rd from last start and WIN % on next start: –

    1st = 12.5%. 2nd = 12.8%. 3rd = 11.5%

I will attempt to take this to the next stage where the author Ricky Taylor demonstrates where the higher strike figures are found and also the greatest profit is made.

Form figs. are shown as last run = LEFT, second last run = centre and 3rd last run to the right.

    Non-juvenile stakes races (non maidens)

    Most profitable

    2 4 2 = 16.9% SR profit +47.50

    3 2 4 = 27.8% SR +45.78*

    2 3 0 = 16.7% SR +33.74

    4 2 1 = 19% SR +27.39

    4 1 4 = 18.3% SR +23

    Best Strike Rate

    2 2 3 = 32.9 SR +15.9

    2 2 4 = 28.6 SR +27.38

    3 2 4 = 27.8 SR +45.78*

    1 1 3 = 24.8 SR +0.76

    3 3 2 = 23.8 SR +3.71

    Other figs. to follow are

    1 4 2

    , 3 3 3,

    3 2 3

    , 2 4 1,

    2 3 2

    , 2 1 4,

    1 0 4

    , 4 1 0,

    3 2 0

    , 0 3 2,

    1 2 0

So far from both postings it is becoming clear that winners last time out are not the best to follow despite the popular belief. Seconds have better winning chances rather than previous winners and 1st LTO is simply not showing in the profit table.

    Interesting, Billion……
Consistency seems to be the key-word here with top four placings over the last three outings being more relevant than the result of the last race alone. Winners LTO are unlikely to provide much in the way of value.
In fact, I’ve never made any money betting in non-handicaps despite conventional wisdom suggesting this is the only way to go!
This sounds like an interesting book…..are there any stats relating to profitability in handicaps and field sizes, both of which are important to me and would encourage me to invest in the book?

    Hi there

    elcartero

    ,

The next table relates to Non juvenile handicaps but like you I thought it would be interesting to see how it all worked out with regard to field size, sadly there is no such info.

    4 4 3 13.0%, 16.60

    4 3 1, 16.3%, 10.0

    3 3 4, 15.0%, 9.29

    2 2 4, 18.0%, 7.95

    2 1 2, 18.4%, 12.02

    4 3 3, 12.4%, 6.46

    4 1 0, 13.3%, 19.50

For those still having an interest the next section is a very short one: –

    Juvenile maiden races

    3 3 0. 23.9 win %. +22.0 point profit

    3 4 0. 21.8% +10.56 profit

    2 2 2. 31.4% +8.06

    3 2 no run. 36.8% +7.11

    0 3 0. 12.7% +2.50

(as always the latest form fig. is to the left)

The penultimate table is very large with 21 different lines and so this time I will concentrate on the highest of strike rates and the best profit makers.

It could be asked why enter the highest SR’s if they do not make great profits but there are some among us who need "chain breakers" to prevent those long losing runs.

    Juvenile non-maidens

    2 0 2 = win % 26.8 and 37.13 profit

    2 1 3 = 26.4% and 85.42 profit

    2 2 2 = 26.1% and 9.27 profit

    0 1 1 = 14.9% and 53.96 profit

    0 2 2 = 18.7% and 37.81 profit

The final posting regarding winning form numbers: –

    3+ year old maidens

    The highest winning percentages are

    2 2 2 38.3% = +9.38 profit

    3 2 2 37.8% = +43.80

    2 2 4 37.3% = +9.81

    3 2 3 35.5% = +12.29

    Largest profit is made from

    0 4 0 12.4% win = +60.88

    0 4 3 21.1% = +52.37

    3 2 2 37.8% = +43.80

(again I mention the most previous race figure is on the left)

These are not my figures or stats but taken from Ricky Taylor’s book.

However to try and answer the question, they do look to be limited in some areas but extensive in others and am afraid you will have to read the book and make your own mind up.

As an opinion I do think good form is not a bad place to start.
