I keep getting unbelievable ‘boost’ offers. The latest one was ‘Manchester United to score in the first half (against Leeds) EVENS – was 4/7.’ Just click here to bet!
They seem to think the days of the punter betting on what he/she wanted to bet on are over. Now it is all about advertising and getting the sad punter to bet on something their experts think will lose. Surely they wiii fall for ‘evens’ when it was 4/7?
Daily, I am invited to bet £5 or more on an ACCA and get another ACCA for free.
You cannot even reply to tell them they are wasting their time.

April 15, 2026 at 17:24 #1763704It’s pretty clear that bookies only really care about mug punters now, and why wouldn’t they really? No point taking a risk on people who know what they’re doing when the masses will happily chuck their money away on massive accumulators and awful value ‘bet builders’.
Everyone is encouraged online where they don’t even need a human to monitor you for signs that you’re clued up.
Not saying it’s right but as I have asked before, what can you do about it?
April 15, 2026 at 17:28 #1763706Spot on Richard have yet to see some of the young kids betting on every cartoon race in shops that they have to be restricted or a traders decision does not allow them to get on at cartoon castle
April 15, 2026 at 18:43 #1763717It is not a big deal but why has this thread been moved to the Lounge? The original post was about Hills closing 200 shops. Why is that not relevant to horse racing?

The boosts are targeted at the mugs but I don’t think its because their experts think it will lose. Otherwise they wouldn’t limit it to £10 max. They are competing with other firms and even if they lose the majority of the “super boosts” they know the mugs will give it back with interest

April 16, 2026 at 19:14 #1763887Not having a go at you Nathaniel, but I’ve always disliked the term ‘mug punter’.
Unless one believes in the maxim ‘never give a sucker an even break’ I believe that bookmakers shouldn’t fleece what I prefer to call ‘recreational punters’ or ‘fun punters’ by stacking the cards heavily against them; be that by offering the probability-unaware superficially tempting offers or by ramping up the over-round on events like the Grand National.
Without the recreational/fun/mug punter those of us who take betting seriously wouldn’t have any markets to ‘invest’ in to borrow a Gingertipsterism.
April 18, 2026 at 21:40 #1764225The mugs would be mugs not to take a punt on the 3 quarter of a coin coin toss at 1/1

April 23, 2026 at 09:10 #1764546Those experts offering ‘boosts’ might not believe they will lose, but they often do! Yesterday’s boost (Burnley v Manchester City) was Manchester City to win both halves 1/1 was 4/7,
April 23, 2026 at 09:38 #1764547Of course they will often lose
Even at true odds of 4/7 it will lose about 36% of the time
which is still quite big chance of defeat for a “banker”
I didn’t see that boost yesterday but in the circumstances I would have played that at 1/1
City wasted loads of chances in that second halfGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
