Saluter’s 6 consecutive Virginia Gold Cups
Flatterer’s 4 consecutive Colonial Cups
Flatterer carrying 176 pounds to victory in the National Hunt Cup
McDynamo’s 5 consecutive Breeders’ Cup Grand National Steeplechases
February 2, 2010 at 02:46 #273547All records are there to be shot at – of the ones you listed I would suggest Golden Miller’s probably the most vulnerable – especially if KS wins his third this year.
Its a long time since the same trainer won more than 3 consecutive Gold Cups, and I wouldn’t bet against Nicholls getting his 4th this year.
If he does then he equals the trainer’s record for the race, 5 overall winners.
And he will probably break that record next year!February 2, 2010 at 04:53 #273548

Me being a bit more worldly wise than you bunch of scruff I know about these things

Many years ago in far way Hungary lived a band of travelling Gypsies.
They often travelled between Bratislava and Buhdaphest stopping off and setting up camp on the outskirts of various towns and villages along the way. Sometimes for one or two days sometimes longer depending on what they could steal along the way.
One dark night while camped outside the town of Kisbet just off the Kojus Lacos Ucta they decided to explore the possibilities of picking up a bit of plunder.
They came across some 40 or 50 horses in a field owned by a wealthy local and decided to have one of them for their own.
From that group of horses they took a one filly who was the most backward sleepyheaded thing imaginable. Had she not been the joker of the pack the owner may not have noticed for weeks, the Gypsies gone and she would have been lost to the world. As it turned out the owner alerted the local police and they found the filly just as the Gypsies were breaking up camp.
Questioning the gypsies the owner suggested they could have stolen a better looking horse and the gypsy replied "Better looking perhaps but I tell you now this horse will be a champion"
Amazing what you can see in a crystal ball

Apparently a true story and the horse in question:
KINCSEM
Kincsem raced all over Europe including England . As a 2 year old she won 10 consequitive races at 10 different tracks spread over 3 countries on everything from firm to heavy.
As a 3 year old she took on the very best Europe had to offer winning a double handful of what we now call Group races in all she won 17 races that season.
As a 4 year old, among other races, she won the Grand Prix de Deauville and the Goodwood Cup in a hack canter.
Her last race was in the Hungarian Oaks as a 5year old, a race she was winning for the 3rd time.
Kinscem retired unbeaten having won an amazing 54 races.

What a horse!!!! I’ve just checked her on Google!
ThatIS
one record that will never be equalled!!!!!
….well? unless they can get some DNA and do a "Dolly The Sheep"
….nuh, even if they did these days the owner would probably want to send her to stud at three….bo-ring…yawn
February 2, 2010 at 18:21 #273647Dayjur’s 5f track record at York which he set in the 1990 Nunthorpe has lasted for 20 years and I wouldn’t be surprised if lasts a lot further into the future.
He’s certainly the best sprinter I’ve seen and arguably the greatest 5f/6f horse Europe has ever had. Here’s the great horse in action.
February 2, 2010 at 18:58 #273656Some of us were already aware of Kinscem’s outstanding career and exploits – so well done Fist for highlighting it.

54 race unbeaten career is something quite extraordinary but a less well known thoroughbred, Puerto Rican trained Camarero, an almost pony sized colt of who raced during the 50s, was unbeaten in the first 56 races he competed in.
He finished 4th on his 57th start.

Overall, he won 73 of his 77 races; albeit against very moderate local rivals and certainly not in the same class as the remarkable Kinscem.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
February 2, 2010 at 21:09 #273681The least likely feat to be achieved was last done in 1970 by Nijinsky. Yes the Triple Crown. Trainers/Owners just dont send the star horses there anymore.
February 2, 2010 at 21:44 #273684……..He finished 4th on his 57th start.
…and that just happened to be the day I had all my money down!

Re Kauto threatening Golden Miller’s record. Even in the unlikely event that Denman get’s beat this year there’s a young horse in Ireland called An Siorrac that will see that’s never going to happen
If An Siorrac ever wins a Gold Cup I shall eat my own foot.
February 2, 2010 at 22:07 #273687Here are two from me
Tom Dreaper 7 successive Irish Nationals with 7 different horses including Arkle and Flyingbolt and 10 in all with 10 different horses.
Jay Trump 2 Maryland Hunt Cups, then the 1965 Grand National, then the 1966 Maryland Hunt Cup in the space of four successive years. Remarkable.
Oh Make that three
Vincent O’Brien from 1948 – 1954, 4 Gold Cups, 3 Champion Hurdles and 3 Grand Nationals this last one with three different horses. Now that will never be seen again.

February 3, 2010 at 01:48 #273702Dawn Run; Champion Hurdle/Gold Cup double
+ Gold Cup as a novice and in record time, + defeated reigning 2-mile champion, + Irish English and French champion Hurdles in the same year. There will never be another like her
And she was only learning how to jump fencesFebruary 3, 2010 at 10:06 #273728Sceptre.
Winner of the 1902 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Oaks, St James’s Palace Stakes, Nassau Stakes and the St Leger. Also reported to have been very unlucky to have not won The Derby due to a bruised foot shortly before the race and then to be left at the start. All those wins as a three year old and numerous other placings, the mind boggles!
A remarkable mare.February 3, 2010 at 10:09 #273730

@ Fist.February 3, 2010 at 22:16 #273861Pretty sure Ardross didn’t win 13 Group 1s; I understand that they were Pattern races but not Group 1s.
Plus Secretariat’s 12f record is dirt-only.
