    Who do you think will come out on top in this historically mouth-watering clash?

    And what would you back at the odds?

    I think Germany wins 2-1.

    Obviously, they can win but I wouldn’t put a bet on it. There was much euphoria surrounding the Slovenia win but was a 1-0 win against a very ordinary side really that brilliant? Yes, it was better than the previous two performances but clearly that’s not saying a great deal.

    In a tournament seemingly lacking outstanding sides thus far neither side looks a potential winner and a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

    Where Germany’s 1-0 win over Ghana and 1-0 defeat to Serbia that brilliant?

    At least England played much better against Slovenia. Yes they got tired/nerves played a part in the last 15 minutes but prior to that the played incredibly well and could have scored three or four quite easily on another day. It’s not always about the scoreline Stilvi.

    I’ve voted for England as I think they can win. I wouldn’t have a bet on this game with free money however as it really is a difficult game to call. Germany have a few injury worries, especially with Schweinsteiger (or whatever his name is), and with Ballack not there they could be a bit short in midfield.

    There’s no doubt England have the players and more experience, but will their nerve hold out? I hope so.

    It will be another tactical match and not a fiesta of brilliant soccer (as ENG vs. SLV and GER vs. GHA had been). The team that will score the first goal in regular time or overtime will have an advantage which is more worth than just a goal – remember the semi-final in 2006 with GER vs. ITY.

    At least the English team commenced training penalty shots – but is this really a mental advantage or does it show just “angst”? Due to injuries the German team can’t play with their best crew. To me, the English team has a slight advantage.

    Of course I hope for a win of the German team – but even in case of success it will be pretty close and there will only be a

    more lucky

    , but

    not a better

    winner.

    And please, stop finally your idiotic, primitive British press trying to make this game another replay of “war” (which btw Britons only won by allied support and not by own effort – but fortunately to our

    common wealth

    ; don’t forget that your Royal Family has strong German sources).

    Such stupid stuff feeds only the scum of the nation(s) – and has nothing to do with “fair play” and “great sport”, which was for a long time a fundamental feature of "sports" invented by British culture. Any further defeat of an English team under "these circumstances" will only increase the shame and blame of the loosers.

    Parlo, I think I can safely state that certain sections of the ‘press’ in this country are at certain times, this being one of them, an embarrassment to the majority of people in this country and we share your views.

    May the best team win.

    Stop Podolski & Klose and you will. :wink:

    They are quite evenly matched in my opinion. If anything , Germany have slightly more flair and imaginaton, whilst England have more experience.

    One goal could settle it. I’ll go draw 90 mins. :D

    Soccer = Football
    Regular = Normal
    Overtime = Extra Time

    I wouldn’t have mentioned this, but as you want Germany to win I thought I’d better bring it up :D

    Good luck.

    Thank you! I always like to learn a bit more. :!: :D

    By the way: What do you think of that somewhat unlucky try: http://www.german-thoroughbred.com/ :oops:

    I voted no, but could have gone either way, to be honest. Purely based on what I’ve seen in these three games, I would give Germany a very slight edge (they were very impressive against Australia and good against Ghana) but I think England can play better, whereas I’m not sure Germany can.

    I don’t buy the idea that the Germans will be intimidated by the sight of Rooney, Gerard and Lampard in the tunnel. That’s more of the ‘golden generation, Premier League’ talk that sounds increasingly hollow as time goes by and that tbh spoiled the last world cup for me. I have avoided being irritated this time round by ignoring the papers completely and filtering out the ramblings of biased pundits, because I want to enjoy this game and support England.

    Where we might have an edge is if we play the same high tempo game and try to dominate physically, ugly though it may be to watch, it might work.

    Should be a fascinating game to watch and as Oneye says, a tense one.

    Its gonna be a classic and i cant split them! At the prices 11/10 Germany to qualify is more tempting than 10/11 England!

    I agree that Germany at 11/10 to progress is worth a punt over Blighty.

    15/8 90 mins is also tempting.

    That Octopuss that Miss Woodford posted in the thread worries me!! It has not been wrong about a result yet :shock:

    Like others I do think the Germans look more mobile and dangerous offensively. I think it will be close but I have a bad feeling…

    Podolski to score the 1st.

    Hope I’m wrong!

    Don’t worry folks!

    Crack open the cans, get the feet up and enjoy Rooney simply tearing them apart.

    3-0 and works phones going mental on Monday morning!

    Yours..

    Any suggestions about how this might be achieved will be gratefully received. A brief glance across the newsagents shelves most mornings is enough to make you despair about the condition of humankind. During a World Cup it’s worse.

    Two bets for me, both Skybet.

    10/1 England to win on penalty’s
    10/1 Germany to win on penalty’s

    Think it’s too tight to call, possibly one goal would settle it but more likely a draw.

    Really feeling confident about England now, maybe it’s the sherberts but the more I think about it the more I fancy England.

    Germany have been impressive so far (barring the Serbia game perhaps) but that’s their level, they can’t go higher. They have no Ballack or Schweinsteiger in midfield and that department now looks extremely weak in my opinion.

    Ozil has been great, but he’s young and I think he will struggle on the day. Klose and Podolski are undoubtedly their biggest talents but I think Terry and Co will sniff out them quite easily. If K & P don’t score then who will for the Germans?

    I’m rememberring Munich and 5-1, I’m rememberring 2-1 last time we played them. I think this will be quite easy to be honest, the Argies will be much tougher in the QF.

    Come on England.

    I am routing 4 germany 4 betting purposes, think germany has looked like a cohesive unit since the start, they play with heart and pride in their country, like so many teams in this comp. England, unfortunately havent looked that cohesive so far in an easier group 2 germany. Also englands bigger names play like its an unfortunate obligation and that everyone owes them big respect just 4 their taking part. The only players i noticed singing the national anthem with any conviction are James and Terry (which i personally think is pretty shameful), and the stand out best player 4 me has been glen johnson who shouldnt be a stand out player in that team imo. Wayne Rooney showed once again against Slovenia that if u mark him out of the game, his temperament will take over. I always like the matches go to those who deserve them and imo germany want it more. I dont buy into all the anti german sentiment in football and i think if england’s team want my respect they should play 4 it. Hopefully england fans will get the performance from their national team which theyve waited 8 years for. Englands last game that impressed me was when they went out 2 eventual winners brazil in 02. Everything since has been lacklustre imo.
