I hear a lot of talk about a resumption of racing on Monday (June 1st) but there’s no official information in the meantime ,so surely there’s no chance of a decision in the next 2 days that will allow that to happen as soon as Monday ,despite the industry claiming to be ready .
It seems a bit cart before the horse and full of false hope at the moment and no indication that the issue is even in the appropriate in tray.Weird.
May 29, 2020 at 12:46 #1489054It does seem strange we are sitting here on Friday expecting racing on Monday without any Govt confirmation…

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!May 29, 2020 at 16:51 #1489064BHA have put everything in place and really couldn’t have done much more. It seems reasonable to think that they have been in regular contact with the relevant government department, but the piece meal way that this UK government operates doesn’t inspire confidence that they will get the nod. Rishi Sunak is on briefing duty today and you wouldn’t have thought he would be the source of a sports resumption announcement, but we’ll see.
Problem seems to me is that everything has been based around keeping Royal Ascot in June and, assuming those dates are pretty much set in stone, there’s no wriggle room should there be any delay. Without Royal Ascot yo could probably just drop the programme back a week or two and it wouldn’t cause too much hassle. Other than pinning their colours firmly to a June 1st start there doesn’t seem to have been much wrong with the BHA approach though as their safety plan seems to cover every angle.
On my local front it seems that BHA have been in consultation with the Scottish Government and there’s a provisional programme in place from June 22nd behind closed doors.

May 30, 2020 at 08:04 #1489095There is a big disconnect between actual law and government guidance.
Legally, for England the rules are currently still in just three statutory instruments – 2020/350, 2020/447 and 2020/500 viewable here:
On the one hand these do not require 2 metre distancing, avoiding public transport or wearing masks in enclosed spaces.
On the other hand, they do not permit race meetings.
Whatever nods and winks may be given by various authorities to each other, as things stand legally a policeman/woman determined to uphold the law could quite justifiably show up at Newcastle racecourse on Monday and shut it down.
Unless anyone knows of a further statutory instrument not yet published ?
May 30, 2020 at 16:25 #1489120It is official now.

June 4, 2020 at 12:10 #1489583interesting how the resumptions of racing and other sports have all been shoe-horned legally into the one concept of “elite athlete”:
