Mark Todd was awarded his knighthood by the government of New Zealand – nothing to do with the Queen.
There’s always been a strong link between the honours system and the Olympics, which is why we have cycling knights, rowing knights, equestrian knights etc. But not many darting or snooker knights!
As for Hamilton, well if sitting in a car and driving round in circles deserves an award, there are tens of thousands of M25 users that are still waiting!

Thousands of jockeys and other horse riders must be awaiting theirs too given that AP got a knighthood for sitting on a horse and riding around in circles.
