It’s ok reciting all these stats but they hardly ever come up with decent price winners which I thought was the purpose
January 11, 2015 at 22:56 #501182I was watching the other day…Saturday lunchtime……and got the distinct impression that the other presenters were getting bored stiff with the stats
I might be a bit naïve but whenever anyone starts spouting stats about the last 10 years I just think ‘fair enough, but those horses are not running today’
Bit like when someone says Southampton haven’t beaten Man Utd at OT for 30 years as though that has any relevance to today’s game with completely different teams of players on the pitch from the encounters in 1989, 1992, 1997, 2004……even last year !
January 12, 2015 at 19:19 #501294I’m not a stats man so likewise am not a fan of Nevison, I’m sure its just his way but most of the time when I see him presenting on RUK he looks to be bored and wishing he was elsewhere, i.e. in the pub
I’d like to see Michael Wilson back and replace the hightly annoying Oli Bell
February 12, 2015 at 09:21 #27518RUK Betting Lab
I see this returned last night, hopefully they will have some good guests on it.
Neil Channing was a good guest, others not so like Nevison & Shinners from Skybet
I can’t understand why they haven’t had RUK’s very own columnist and blogger Tanya Stevenson on yet
As C4’s betting guru she is described on RUK’s website as a respected betting analyst who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of betting and knows the sport inside out
Surely a natural for RUK’s Betting Lab if ever I’ve heard one.As they had Clare from Corals on last night why didn’t Angus & James take the opportunity to ask him why his company wont lay 2 bananas to a banana?
I’m not too sure how much James Willoughby understands betting markets, he seems to consider what Kempton bookmakers provide as gospel and every horse that contracts must be strong in the market while every horse that lengthens must be weak.
February 12, 2015 at 09:44 #505191As a guru of numbers and betting markets, Willoughby on this program provides almost none. His evidence is almost always anecdotal. That combined with his annoying penchant for topic jumping and complicating the simple, makes this potentially interesting series a write-off.
I’ve always applauded his willingness to take an alternative view to the pounds and lengths brigade that have almost stultified my interest in the racing channels, but how he communicates it is another story…..
February 12, 2015 at 12:58 #505215Agree with both posters , Willoughby is indeed rubbish ..and has been for a long time now, but RUK have their luvvies , he is one of them ….so far behind Mellish and Hislop its embarrassing …
Channing is interesting as he is a very good poker guy , I dont watch the coverage of AW racing at all so I missed this episode , to be honest I wont be bothering
February 12, 2015 at 18:31 #750674Unless they are repeating the guests I am assuming this is a(nother) RUK repeat?
February 12, 2015 at 22:50 #750704I think the perennial problem is that those who REALLY know what they are doing when it comes to betting don’t want to share their secrets and edges for a relatively derisory TV appearance fee.
So these programmes tend to attract those who, well, need the TV appearance money because, tbh, they are not THAT great at betting.

The sad truth finally exposed.
Post of the year to date.
You can add to the list those that write books about racing and betting. They hope by writing something down some clues will appear to them for understanding a profession that leaves them totally bewildered.
Then there are the pub-quiz types who can name every Derby etc winner and delude themselves that they really understand everything to know about racing.February 14, 2015 at 05:36 #750832Robert,
I hope you are not including our own APRacing in that comment about authors?

February 14, 2015 at 09:49 #750853Another great Betting Lab on Wednesday. With proper betting finally getting some exposure in this country, win single spot betting’s reign of terror must surely be coming to an end.
Potts would be an ideal guest for the Wednesday night feature. Let’s get it on!
February 14, 2015 at 17:35 #750932The Pricewise book is well worth a read, as are APRacing’s books. Plenty stuff in those alone that should improve your betting.
February 15, 2015 at 08:12 #750982Nev’s stats told him Fletchers Flyer was a certainty before the race, little said after.
Apparently one of them told him Noel Fehily is a good jockey on a Saturday

PMSL at that
February 15, 2015 at 11:18 #750995How many hangers on did RUK have yesterday? Must have been approaching double figures. ‘We lead’ – yes, in wasting subscribers money.
February 15, 2015 at 19:03 #751061Vincent O’Brien once said "If you think you’ve got six Derby horses you’ve probably got none"
I heard Nevison say he’d found 6000 profitable systems on RUK the other day……….
February 16, 2015 at 00:08 #751093I would seriously consider paying the RUK subscription fee just to have the channel deploy a permanent mute button.
Love the pictures on RUK, but the sound….
