I watched the George clip in a cafe sitting away from people on my own. I had brought a plastic beaker to save myself 50 pence. Out of respect for other people I put no volume up so had to guess the storyline. I was brought up to consider others and be respectful. I found it very interesting and had never seen that before and thank you Ground for putting it on a plate for me.

Daniel Craig has portrayed Bond in a very interesting more serious way, exhibiting more human frailties. The storylines have been creative too. Casino Royale I enjoyed particularly but possibly some of the scenes tried a little too hard. Le Chiffre was excellent. I think there will be a Bond to follow Craig albeit a difficult act to follow.

I just wonder if they had kept the films time locked in the 60’s in the cold war era – the plots might have been easier. Maybe not.

A friend of mine played as a baddie in View for a kill which is the Moore film I particularly liked (also liked the Scaramanga one) and he told me Moore was a scream and very good company, on and off screen.

Peter Ustinov was also in the Swiss set with David Niven and I do know Roger Moore was was good friends with Fred Dineage of How fame and more recent murder stories. I bumped into Fred at a party with fireworks in a friends house in Southampton, a long while ago, but did not approach him when he was sitting alone talking to his young son. I probably would not have engaged with Moore if he had been there. You really need the host to introduce you, and people have forgotten the art.

The Doctor No poster with a small sized Ursula Andress at the forefront in a bikini with the large face and gun of a deadly serious Connery behind is a very iconic picture to me that symbolises the whole franchise –

    Mission first girl second.

    The name’s Bond
    James Bond

Connery says this best – his voice seems exactly the right pitch. The voice is important. I look forward to watching OHMSS again to re-hear George’s version.

Gamble what Baddie did your friend play ? , I deal with celebs and I’ve found A Listers tend to be great to deal with however it’s the wannabes and Z Listers who you the issues with ….” Do you know who I am ” has been utered to me a few times …” No ” is the standard and bubble bursting reply , the first celeb i ever dealt was Michael Palin , he was delightful , in Scotland to film at Stirling castle , if you’ve read his diaries or watched his documentaries then he,s just as natural and unassuming in person

Ground, I don’t know if you recall the scene in the stable with the two security watchers in green – I think my mate was wearing a sort of Austrian type hat and he was the big guy and Moore somehow dealt with him after a scrap – he ended up on a conveyer belt with plastic straps. His name is Trevor Cooper ( He was not included when I checked actors credits on one site ) – not an A lister and and not much hair. He’s appeared in Dr Who and a couple of Poirot’s. I think he may still live in Brighton. He’s an old friend – he told me he put on the lbs to get the parts. He was the central teddy boy in the old do it all ads.

Yes I always thought you get what you see with Palin.

James Bond has put Britain back on the world map – almost as much impact as the Beatles. I think the brand is very delicate and can be damaged maybe permanently if they don’t get it right. I thought Craig seemed to lack life force in his last Bond – it was a difficult one I was on heavy steroids when I watched it and felt anxious, slightly out of my head, and very very fidgety. You have to see a Bond in the right mood – I was not right back then, and I will enjoy seeing it again and maybe having a different view.

Tom Hardy is the current favourite to play Mr Bond. Recently, Spiderman actor Tom Holland has emerged as a very strong candidate.

If you’ve read the books, it’s blindly simple – Connery tried to play Bond like Fleming’s Bond once (Dr No), Daniel Craig did all the time, Connery the rest of the time and Moore saw it as a quasi comedy role.

Ian there was very little tongue in cheek in either Live and Let Die or Man with the golden gun , both of Moore,s performances have a touch of Connery , look at the arm up the back of the Maud Adams character in Thmwgg , once comfortable in the role Moore put his stamp on it ,For your Eyes Only is prob his strongest film , few gadgets and with 5 years prep ( it was meant to be done after TSWLM but they rushed in Moonraker to jump on the back of Star Wars ) they script and casting was very strong , you can’t take the character too seriously , Dalton did , there,s nothing to him really , he,s a hired killer

While the comedy/humour facet and his character being a bit ‘too twee’ may not be for the purists, I do enjoy watching Roger Moore’s Bond films.

Live and Let Die is probably my favourite of the Moore films. There’s never a dull moment in it. One particular moment in the film gets me every time … when a speedboat hovers across a lawn, destroys a wedding ceremony and smashes the cake to pieces. The bride breaks down in floods of tears in the groom’s arms and he just stands there with a wan smile creeping on his face as he goes out of shot. Fantastic!

    And J W Pepper is a legend.

Each to their own, Bond is just a bit of escapism to me, Diamonds are Forever was the first Bond Movie I’d watched and at the time didn’t notice where he entered the alleyway on one set of wheels (ie left hand side) then flipped to the other side, because the stun people couldn’t get the continuity right.

I’ve never liked Bond films as I can never understand plots and find car chases boring. However, if Tom Hardy plays Bond I will start watching them. I like to think I discovered him when he played Robbie in the Anne Marie Duff series about Elizabeth. I told my daughter to watch it and she just pointed out that ‘he’s got wonky teeth’. She has learned the error of her ways since, though. But I agree: he won’t be Bond. I can but dream, though….
