I was pondering and after barely getting past Boston Bob and Simonsig, I decided to draw a list of horses who are most probably going novice chasing next season. After an hour, I felt I went a little overboard but here’s who, all being well, I can see taking their chances over fences next season;-

Well Hello ThereNow clearly, there will be some on that list I’m looking forward to more than others but I’m hoping that the winners of Cheltenham’s four festival novice chases are on the above list.
If anybody can add to the list (because chances are that I will have missed out a few) or point out horses that probably won’t be going novice chasing next term then that would be much appreciated.
Also, which ones are you looking forward to the most?
March 21, 2012 at 07:48 #397909I should add Bar De Ligne to the list. I knew I would forget at least one!

March 21, 2012 at 10:42 #397922Couple of under the radar ones
Rudemeister
for Andrew Parker and
Netminder
for Sandy Thomson
March 21, 2012 at 12:02 #397934LYREEN LEGEND is another who’s a bit under the radar.
March 21, 2012 at 13:41 #397949He sure is thm, like him a lot, could easily go on to better things.
One who missed the majority of this season was Rigour Back Bob, I’d like to see him going over fences if he returns well from injury.
March 21, 2012 at 14:03 #397952I liked the look of CAPTAIN CONAN when he appeared at Kelso recently as he has ‘steeplechaser’ stamped all over him. He was outpointed on the day by the progressive Tap Night from Lucinda Russell’s yard. That form may well look very decent by the end of April, and I reckon Captain Conan will step up a notch over fences.
I agree with
tbracing
about NETMINDER. This is one who struck me as a chasing sort when I saw him in the autumn, and he’s done nicely over hurdles, so his enthusiastic trainer must surely be looking forward to next season with this one.

March 21, 2012 at 19:00 #397976Notable absentee from the list is Punjabi. Was supposed to ho chasing this season but missed it with an injury. 9 year old so will need a big performance to be winning any Arkles at 10.
Another one missing is Solwhit! Really excited to see this one over fences.
Really looking forward to see Divers going over fences.
March 22, 2012 at 21:34 #398079Divers already has gone over fences, Peter. He won the Jewson last season and ran in the Byrne Group Plate this year.
March 22, 2012 at 22:08 #398086Couple of under the radar ones
Rudemeister
for Andrew Parker
If campaigned in the right way he could be a Nationalhorse for the future TB
March 22, 2012 at 22:30 #398088I was going to post that Captain Conan was one I was looking forward to after seeing him at Kelso but Rob beat me to it. He looks to have loads of scope about him.
March 22, 2012 at 22:36 #398090I’ll throw in
Trifolium
, he has chaser written all over him and even at this early stage ticks the boxes with ‘Jewson’ on them. I’ve got to mention
Batonnier
too, he’s an RSA sort along with
Smad Place
,he’ll keep out of ‘Big Bucks’ way jumping fences!
March 23, 2012 at 16:23 #398163but I’m hoping that the winners of Cheltenham’s four festival novice chases are on the above list.
Unlike this time last year when there were a handful or more Arkle winners in waiting I can’t think of a single horse that fits the bill this time around.
Simonsig is by far the shortest of those already priced up but while his jumping may improve for the transition to fences I would have my doubts and even if it does, who knows what distance he’ll be aimed at.
Very, very open race at this stage – unlike the longer races with horses of the calibre of Oscar Whiskey, Brindisi Breeze, Boston Bob, Rocky Creek et al to name but a few.
What price we get an ex-French bred joining the yards of Nicholls, King or Pipe over the summer months heading the market come next March ?

March 23, 2012 at 17:49 #398172PP quoted me 20/1 Lyreen Legend to win the 2013 RSA
March 23, 2012 at 18:09 #398173Are they really sending Brindisi Breeze chasing ?

I think he could follow Bobs Worth in doing the Albert Bartlett/RSA double, would love connections to confirm his future.

I could be proved very wrong indeed but i think they should stay over hurdles, the problem being i guess is the limited number of quality staying races with prize money at that level
