I was looking at photos from Ascot in the Blood Horse and there was the Sheikh and Princess Haya of Jordon on the podium with Jim Bolger. Did they present the trophy or are they into the winner, Lush Lashes?
June 24, 2008 at 19:53 #169984They were presenting the prize.
June 24, 2008 at 19:54 #169985I dont think so, Lush Lashes runs in Jackie (probably not the right spelling) Bolgers colours. I think they (Sheikh Mo and Co) did present a trophy at ascot but cant remember which one. Pretty sure Bolger still owns Lush lashes but they did sell Teofilos Dam Spierbhean to Sheikh Mohammed a few months back.
June 24, 2008 at 21:48 #169995I think there would be a discussion…
Sheikh Mo: So John, how exactly do you win all these Group 1’s with horses you haven’t bought just prior to the race?
Magnier: Piss off fool!

June 24, 2008 at 22:37 #170002Thanks.
June 25, 2008 at 00:25 #170011Do the Ascot powers that be make sure Mohammed never presents a prize to Magnier? How does that work? Has it ever happend?
A similar thing happened a few years ago when Sheikhy was called upon to present a trophy to the recently sacked Henry Cecil (Champion Stakes, I think) and made some gesture of throat-slitting in fun.
He does pick some strange people to fall out with, doesn’t he?
June 25, 2008 at 09:53 #170020The trophy presenters – usually members of the Royal family or celebrities plus a couple of racecourse sponsors – are organised well in advance for each race.
Sheikh Mohammed and Princess Haya did present the prize for the Coronation Stakes – being the most prestitgious race of the day – to Mrs Jackie Bolger (in whose name she runs) and Mrs June Judd.
That is why Richard Dunwoody was in the rather strange position of having to make the trophy presentation for the Chesham Stakes to The Queen.
June 25, 2008 at 11:46 #170033Does anyone remember the Dewhurst Sir Percy won when it seemed Sheikh Mohammed would be presenting Magnier with the trophy until Fallon got boxed in on Horatio Nelson?
Now, that would have been worth watching
June 25, 2008 at 12:40 #170038I could be wrong here but doesn’t Sue Magnier normally receive the prizes
