I’m trying to find the winners of the Topham through the 70s. I know Inch Arran in 73 and Churchtown Boy in 77, and Arctic Ale in 79, but I haven’t found anything else. Does anyone have any memories of these? It’s only for personal interest really.
I seem to recall a horse called Pakie ridden by Aly Branford winning or coming second in the Topham circa 1978. I also have a vague recollection of a jockey called Sunderland winning the race around the same time.

Mention of the jockey Sunderland jogged my memory a bit -and think he won on Lictor in 75 or 76.The horse was a grey close relative of Spanish Steps owner trained by Edward Courage. I think my old friend The Pilgarlic came third.Recall having a small winning bet on Mr Marlsbridge trained by David Gandolfo. Never saw that race but think it was around 1978.

Cheers again.
