what were the odds as well please
March 30, 2009 at 01:18 #219178With all due respect, you have posted 6 times on this site and every one has been a slightly off-the-wall question
Can I ask why?
Can I also ask are you the same drchris who persistently asks questions on the Irish section of the Betfair forum but fails to ever offer up any solutions?
February 11, 2010 at 20:07 #275692Wouldn’t have had Queen Mother in the title then.
February 11, 2010 at 21:22 #275710If you take the first word of each answer, then convert the letters in it into numeric values, you will get Saturdays winning Lotto numbers. Mark My words!
February 12, 2010 at 05:52 #275741Cannot tell you who was second. primarily because I think I once may have seen the closing stages of the race and it was three years before I was born. However, I can tell you the winner was Inkslinger, trained by Dan Moore and ridden by Tommy Carberry. At 6, Inkslinger was the youngest horse to ever win the race.
The race became the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 1980 to celebrate her 80th birthday.
Craig.
February 12, 2010 at 06:10 #275745Thanks for that Craig – I didn’t know that the name change took place that long ago.

He beat Royal Relief just can’t remember if he was second but definately ran in the race Inkslinger won.
February 12, 2010 at 10:49 #275790In those days it was called the National Hunt Two Mile Champion Chase.
It was won by Inkslinger (ridden by Tommy Carberry at 6/1). Second was Royal Relief (ridden by Philip Blacker at 14/1).
Crisp (the odds on favourite ridden by Richard Pitman) was 2 lengths further back in 3rd.
February 12, 2010 at 10:51 #275791Did Royal Relief ever run in the Grand National?

Yes.
1974 Fell.

February 12, 2010 at 12:37 #275810Royal Relief fell at the first in the 74 National and at the 7th in the 75 National, with Lord Oaksey taking the tumble each time.
Hi everyone, btw. New round here.
February 12, 2010 at 12:38 #275811Heya Old Applejack – great username btw

February 12, 2010 at 13:00 #275818Not sure whether it’s worked, but if it has attached is the Calendar extract from that year.
February 12, 2010 at 13:09 #2758212nd time lucky – it was over two pages so it’s two files.
February 12, 2010 at 13:20 #275823Isn’t it great to see a card with names like Biddlecombe, Kelleway, Blacker, Carberry on it.
Great stuff.February 12, 2010 at 13:23 #275825Fascinating stuff. I do like my nostalgia.
Thanks for the welcome IS. Old Applejack was a favourite of mine back in the day, and he seemed to be around forever. Ran decently in a couple of Nationals too.
I’m not a great punter or formbook student, but i do love my racing and have been enjoying reading the site for the past few weeks, before taking the plunge.
As we’re getting nostalgic, I wonder if someone could help me with a query that has been nagging me for weeks?
I’m trying to find the winners of the Topham through the 70s. I know Inch Arran in 73 and Churchtown Boy in 77, and Arctic Ale in 79, but I haven’t found anything else. Does anyone have any memories of these? It’s only for personal interest really.
Oh, and I’m not familiar with E Wright on that racecard. Anyone remember him?
February 12, 2010 at 14:01 #275831Yes Eddie Wright on Straight Fort was one of many Jockeys at that time for the Tom Dreaper stable.
Another name that Dreaper employed after Pat Taafe retired was Val O’Brien.
The Dreaper stable often had multiple runners in races and it was hard to work out from jockey bookings who was most fancied.
Tommy Carberry on Inkslinger rode for Dan Moore at that time before switching to the Dreaper stable when Jim took over on Toms death. Tommy married Dan Moore’s daughter Pamela so the breeding was there for Paul.Nina and Philip. When Dan Moore died his son A L Moore took over the licence.
