    Or rationally?

Their are some races which I just cannot get into or warm to. This Saturdays chase at Doncaster is one. Im not sure why but maybe because Donny is always a flat course for me.

I really don’t like the Scottish national either. Boring track and endless plodding late in season which feels a bit like an unwelcome party guest who’s still jabbering away over breakfast

My mate loathes the Pertemps qualifiers but im thinking more the promoted Saturday races here

Flat is easy. I have zero time for handicap sprints and frankly graded sprints bore me too

I also happily ignore the laughably overrated overexposed Melbourne Cup too.

Could be a good thread Clive. I agree, good idea to keep it to the big Saturday races, or promoted races, otherwise it would be yet another thread slating the same “new” races at Cheltenham.

Well, I do have a rationale so doesn’t quite fit your brief but- The Irish Arkle and Dublin Chase at the DRF. There aren’t enough top class 2 mile chasers in Ireland to give these much depth so they can end up kind of dull. It’s either a grade 1 star like Douvan walloping a very small handful of handicappers and grade 3 horses by a distance, or a grade 2 horse beating a slightly larger handful of handicappers and grade 3 horses and maybe one other grade 2 horse.

The Super Sprint at Newbury and other auction races as well (not talking about auction maidens). Loads of trainers like Hannon, Fahey, AOB and so on are mob-handed, you have to guess which one is the best horse and you only get three places EW.
Also almost all races run at Kelso with runners from the south.

Greenasgrass, agreed. I also dislike the Shloer Chase and the race run at Newbury that used to be the “real” Mandarin Chase. That was a better race in the late 80s till mid 90s.

Any listed/graded bumper, particularly those for mares. Giving jumping animals black type for never leaving the ground is damaging the breed… wipe them out and introduce black type chases for entires.

Every race at the Shergar Cup – racing is not a contrived team sport.

Btw, Shergar should have his great name attached to an appropriate race – like the Classic Trial at Sandown Park which he won by the length of Esher High Street – and not that monstrosity at Ascot.

Ruby- the Mandarin used to be a great race. I remember watching Night Nurse roaring back on the run in to beat Captain John and Lesley Ann one year; it’s available on YouTube.

You don’t get horses of that quality running in it these days, sadly.

    The Irish Gold Cup.

Apart from being a Florida Pearl/Beef or Salmon charity race, has lead to the downfall of many a Cheltenham Gold Cup contender.

That’s what I’m thinking too, Gladiateur.
Remember the likes of Party Politics, Chatam, Jodami or Hill Trix winning it.

Have to disagree with the Scottish National. It’s a spectacular sight, seeing 30 horses flying over the fences.

The race I would do away with is the contenders hurdle at Sandown. It’s a needless race which detracts from the Haydock trial and the Kingwell.

Completely agree Clive, read you loud and clear.

Should be good to see a few different shouts here.

    The November Handicap.

It takes place long after the rest of us have stopped caring about the flat, yet it stinks up the schedule and gets in the way just as the NH season proper is kicking off.

So don't run, just like the others always do

The Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham. Although I do not consider my dislike of it irrational.

If you had asked me last year I would have said the Ebor because my record in it was absolutely abysmal. I finally managed to back the winner of it last season but it is still a race with painful memories!

That was my first ebor winner too

A lot of rational choices here and totally agree with those awful breeders auction sprints things.
