We have all heard of track specialists in the racing game, for example Rapid Lad, who won so many times at Beverley that they named a race after him (Although, somewhat bizarrely, one of my less logical ex-punters thought the horse was named after the race
)I was wondering which horse had done the opposite and won at numerous different tracks throughout their career in the UK?
I recall a good old sort who was trained by John Hills called Gilderdale and if I remember rightly he raced until about 12 years old and won at least one race most seasons and I think there was a fair few different tracks in his winning column.
Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 27, 2013 at 19:36 #440951Great question Steve!
My old mate Dvinsky won at 8 tracks, that’s a fair feat.
He won at Kempton, Lingfield, Great Leighs, Wolverhampton, Chepstow, Goodwood, Salisbury and Pontefract.
The Tatling won at 12.
Ascot, Bath, Brighton(2), Catterick, Goodwood, Musselburgh, Newbury (3), Sandown(2), Southwell(2), Wolverhampton(last ever race), Yarmouth(2), York
They have raced 404 times between them so I imagine beating double figures will be tough, The Tatling must be a good candidate!
Frankel won on 7 different courses if you include both Newmarket tracks and he won 14 races.
Kauto Star won on 7 also, 8 if you include Down Royal and that after racking up 19 chase win since coming from France.
Trainers often send horse back to course they do well at and travelling could be another factor for horses not to win at so many tracks. Truth is many horses will do well to win double figure races in their career let alone at double figure courses so my early assumption is The Tatling must be right up there at least. My memory only goes back so far though so I could be wide of the mark!

Ten consecutive years……………bet there’s not many done that !
May 27, 2013 at 20:07 #440959I have had an honourable guess on three, and checked on the results on the RP. The results are as follows –
Sendintank – 8.
Lochsong – 10.
The Tatling (as already mentioned) – 12.An honourable mention for my namesake
– 6.Surely anyone beating The Tatling must be another sprint handicapper?
Interesting thread Steve!

May 27, 2013 at 20:57 #440964A word for a pair of amazing Bill O’Gorman colts who equalled the record of 16 wins in a two-year-old season held for a century by The Bard. They were Provideo in 1984 who won at
eleven
different tracks and Timeless Times in 1990 who won at
twelve
. Neither of them won as 3yos or older.
Provideo was a bad-tempered colt who enjoys an apocryphal retrospective claim to fame as he apparently once bit erstwhile stable worker turned RUK French racing pundit, Claude Charlet,
sur la tete
.
Partnered by Tony Ives, Provideo got the ball rolling early, strolling home in the Brocklesby at the opening meeting of the season and rattling around the country notching up wins from then on. His record sixteenth was in November at Redcar. Ironically, his best run was in defeat when going down to subsequent King George winner Petoski in the Champagne Stakes at Goodwood.
Timeless Times, partnered by Alan Munro, had already won 16 races by September 15th, but was then injured otherwise he would surely have surpassed the record. Like Provideo he was probably about lesser Listed class with the pair hovering around the 100 official rating mark.
Interestingly, both horses were sent to the USA late in the year in an attempt to win the record (just be easy AW pickings nowadays of course) but they came away empty handed. O’Gorman later said he regretted doing this

May 27, 2013 at 21:59 #440971Correct me if my counting is wrong, but I make Doran’s Pride’s final tally to be:
11 NH courses(UK + IRE)
1 Flat course
3 PTP coursesMay 27, 2013 at 23:09 #44097533 wins for Palacegate Touch at 14 different tracks is a contender.
May 28, 2013 at 09:29 #440984Palacegate Touch hits the front! Wow, he really did do some racing didn’t he, 30 courses in total!
May 28, 2013 at 22:06 #441045Best of those I tried to look up….
Muse 10
Docklands Express 11
Skipping Tim 14May 29, 2013 at 15:05 #441086If it’s any help Quixall Crossett lost at 19 different tracks.
May 29, 2013 at 20:30 #441115I’m guessing it might be Crudwell, who won 50 out of 108 starts – 43 jumps and 7 flat.
Those 50 wins must have encompassed a pretty large number of courses.
