There is a drift of owners taking horses to be trained in France this coming season (Nat Hunt). Is it all about the money or are they trained and kept as well as our UK
trainers?August 6, 2012 at 10:54 #409062Irish Stamp is the man for advice on the French racing scene. There are a few British trainers training in France – as an example, check out Eoghan O’Neill’s website:

August 6, 2012 at 13:06 #409070It’s surprising just how many expats have or are still training in France. I can remember Martin Blackshaw going there and doing very well before he was unfortunately killed in a car crash. As far as I know his long time friend Stuart Cargeeg still trains there and has had his fair share of success.
Guys like Stuart wouldn’t be doing anything different in France than they would in the UK so I would imagine facilities around Chantilly would be no better or worse than they are in the UK.
I think a lot of the horses that are sent to be trained in France go there because they prefer cut in the ground.

Gina Rarick is a US trainer based in Maisons-Laffitte
Jenny Bidgood trains over in France too.
There are others who’d speak English to be fair too.
I replied to your PM too btw Tuffers – sorry it’s exceptionally late, hope it’s still useful.
