Similar to the one for the jumps this thread can be for those who have questions about horses we haven’t seen for a while due to injuries or whatever.

I’m wondering what’s happened to the Gosden trained filly Belle D’Or, thought she was visually impressive on her first run last season in May when getting no sort of run and ended up finishing 2lengths behind the winner (Bragging) before finishing 9 lengths to Secret Gesture over a trip that was almost certaintly too far for her at the time (9.5f) which was also in May. The filly hasn’t been seen since and her mark of 104 to me looks incredibly lenient and I’ve been waiting since 12 months ago to back her in a handicap but I’ve no idea what’s happened to her. If I had to guess I’d say she picked up an injury and they decided to hold out with her and win a big field handicap (Royal Ascot, the Wolferton maybe?) before going onto better things.

Belle D’Or doesn’t appear in the list of horses in training for John Gosden on the Weatherbys website. I’d suggest it’s most likely she was already in foal when running twice last year and that her first offspring will appear sometime in 2018 – or at the 2017 yearling sales if it’s a colt.

On a similar note, anyone know if the Gosden-trained French Dressing is still in training? Thought she could be one of the revelations of this season.

French Dressing is definitely retired to stud to replace her dam, Foodbroker Fancy, who died last year – here’s the report from the Post bloodstock site in January this year:

Her penultimate foal French Dressing, a daughter of Sea The Stars, enters stud unbeaten in two starts including the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes last July. Her first date is with New Approach, the sire of her Listed-placed half-brother Pretzel and her close relation Sultanina.

Thanks ap. Shame really, genuinely thought she would be one of the main players in the fillies and mares division this year.
