Sounds like Ireland is due to open on the 29th June
May 2, 2020 at 10:45 #1487789Making plans for anything, be that the UK racing programme or steps towards reopening the Irish economy, amount to little more than wishful thinking at present; but it’s as well to have some sort of contingencies in place ready to roll if and when…
Hopefully the UK government will take a leaf out of the BHA’s and Ireland’s books and present we the proletariat with a wish list sometime next week, as I believe Johnson has promised to do: that Irish list looks lovely on paper, opium of the people
May 3, 2020 at 11:29 #1487835Whether it’s the BHA, HRI, France Galop or Deutscher Galopp, it seems to me they all (rightly) make big plans, everyone within the industry – including those who write about it – gets excited about them, and then reality bites when the penny drops that their governments have the final call on all this.
Germany just had a reality check, Ireland may be next.
Will France race on 11th May?
Will the UK get to resume before football does?
I am missing racing like crazy, but I will believe in these resumptions when I see them occur.

Excellent news. Victor Ludorum and Sottsass are among the big names scheduled to reappear that day, at least according to a recent article in the Racing Post.
May 4, 2020 at 19:32 #1487880Opinions seems to suggest May 15th for the return of Horse racing in both UK & US
Myself I think it’ll be a little longer.

But you can give them to the birds and bees.May 4, 2020 at 19:41 #1487881May 15th would be great, but given what Nicola Sturgeon said today (and she often gives out impending overall UK policy early) it is likely that nothing much will change in Thursday’s lockdown review with Boris Johnson leaving it until Sunday to make an announcement on future policy.
Doesn’t mean UK racing couldn’t resume five days after that if given the green light, but it’s leaving it awfully tight.

May 11, 2020 at 10:41 #1488045From Boris’s message it looks like no Derby/Oaks or Guineas or “Royal” Ascot as things won’t return to normal until July 4th at the earliest.

But you can give them to the birds and bees.May 11, 2020 at 11:25 #1488051After watching ParisLongchamp this morning I am wondering why can we do the same closed door racing here in UK? Sports can lift the mood of the nation and our country needs it in plenty. We must start atleast football and racing behind closed door asap.
May 11, 2020 at 11:53 #1488054Yes it can be done even if run at different courses Newmarket would be easier to police than Epsom or Ascot as they both have a Heath that could attract spectators and both in more built up areas … Newmarket has all the facilities required nearby .. why don’t they just get on with it?
Longchamp leading the way, everyone wearing masks and it IS working.
Like you say Austin sport can lift the mood of the Nation even behind closed doors it can be enjoyed if televised.
Why are we waiting while the beaurocrats sit pondering ..horses will need at least 3 weeks between each Group race and time will run out for some if they don’t get moving.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 11, 2020 at 13:02 #1488069From Boris’s message it looks like no Derby/Oaks or Guineas or “Royal” Ascot as things won’t return to normal until July 4th at the earliest.
When did he say this. He said parts of the hospitality industry would not open until at least July. He did not mention sport at all. The message seems to be you can start doing stuff, work, meeting family/friends etc. but whatever you do you MUST keep to the social distancing rules of keeping two metres apart. Unless all jockeys are tested each day when they arrive at the course and the test result is reliable then racing possibly can re-start. Jockeys would have to be at least two metres from each other at the start, during and after the race if no testing is done (IMO a non-starter).
So the question is are the BHA planning on testing all jockeys and other staff when they arrive at the course?
May 11, 2020 at 13:24 #1488075He didn’t, but reading between the lines this is the date I think things could return to normal on conditions that things are going the right way.
Here is an article from Racing Post saying more

But you can give them to the birds and bees.May 11, 2020 at 13:38 #1488079Not wishing to burst any bubbles, but the sport of racing may pay for the now considered mistake that was Cheltenham. Certainly behind closed doors poses far fewer risks. It is all about perception and Cummings will not take any chances. I was surprised lat night that Johnson, who restrained his enthusiasm by sitting down, gave permission for extended travelling for exercise. I am just about to travel by car and expect the roads to be a lot busier.
flatcapgamble…Dog racing should be OK as we seem to have a superior immunity to you bipeds.
May 11, 2020 at 13:38 #1488080He didn’t,
He didn’t say a lot things what I expected him to. The speech left me a little confused and none the wiser really. I think the one thing he did get across along with Raab this morning is that the social distancing rules are here for as long as it takes.
this is the date I think things could return to normal
Is this normal or what they are calling the “new normal”. IMO it will be at least 18 months before we get back to normal maybe even five years depending on a vaccine.
May 11, 2020 at 13:39 #1488081Triptych does Newmarket not have a heath that can be accessed?
