Same, Purwell.
The cash-out button was designed for punters who can’t do basic maths.
You only need a calculator to hand when constructing the bet to see what will be running onto the final leg(s).
If you’re going to bottle it once you hit six figures why put that many horses/football clubs/whatever into the bet in the first place?
I guess he got 9/2 a horse which is now 2/5, so that makes a better case for it in this instance, but as a rule cash out is the bookies’ way of making sure you don’t win what you’re due even when you do win.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 18, 2021 at 11:15 #1530583Meanwhile in the real world, he has lobbed a fiver on an accca perhaps on impulse, and his family can’t afford to turn down £250k.

March 18, 2021 at 11:45 #1530595If you look at the full screenshot he posted on Twitter, it shows a balance of £21k and there is a £20 bet above with the last selection visible and another bet below with the first selection visible. Both of these appear to be the same selections as in the £5 bet so I’d say it’s some sort of perm.
Clearly not short of cash if he’s got over 20 grand sat in a betting account, although I suspect 250k would make most people think twice.
March 18, 2021 at 11:46 #1530596As those au fait with the maths have pointed out, in theory he should have let it run, and theoretically that’s what I’d have done. However, having never been, or likely to ever be in the fortunate position this gent finds himself in I really don’t know what I’d do: remain the hard-nosed punter not caring if the last leg falls because I know I got ‘the value’ or become the whoopee win-or-lose 250K or 300K I don’t care loadsamoney!! fun punter, ta very much
If the guy is already wealthy and the possible 500K acca would only be frittered on a yet bigger house or even more pricey car; that is, no noticeable leg-up in quality of life then let it run
If he’s Joe Bloggs who has thus far meandered through life trying to make the best of the everyday tedium his limited finances enforce then cash out and relish the weight lifted from weary shoulders that 250 or 300K will provide

The “real world” is different for all of us, for you, for me, for him, for everyone.
I am not given to impulse betting, let alone impulse accumulators – that’s my “real world.”
Each to their own.

March 18, 2021 at 13:33 #1530659Well the cash out really did pay off
March 18, 2021 at 13:35 #1530661I wonder if ITV had a camera on him during the race ..

March 18, 2021 at 13:36 #1530662That is why I have given up with jumps racing.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysMarch 18, 2021 at 14:38 #1530694Betfair’s maximum limit for such a bet is 250k (seems very small for such a big firm). They knew full well when taking this bet that it would more than double exceed their limit if successful. Obviously the punter should have known this but surely the onus should be on the bookmaker not to accept a bet without informing the punter of this.
As it happens Betfair agreed to waive the maximum payout if it had been successful but there would be no guarantees for others in a similar situation.March 18, 2021 at 14:44 #1530702Betfair pay out their maximum limit payout, on a losing bet. Hmm.

March 18, 2021 at 15:55 #1530737Max payout is 1 million with betfair.
March 18, 2021 at 16:36 #1530755Captain Robbo,
Max payout for future racing bets is 250k
https://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Sportsbook.Rules.And.Regulations/#MaxWinThat’s the point though, punters will be putting bets on to win 500k or one million thinking that is the maximum limit, like you. Maybe today’s punter thought it was 500k?
This is something the betting authorities should be looking at. Bookmakers taking bets under false pretences.
Max limits vary for different types of bets and how many punters would know the limit was only 250k for ante-post bets? I didn’t.March 18, 2021 at 16:44 #1530761Incorrect it’s 1 million for class 1 and 2 racing.
They wouldn’t have offered 300,000 if the max was 250,000.
March 18, 2021 at 16:55 #1530765Ah I relooked and see what you are saying it does state 250k for future racing events though I assume that for the Ascot and Cheltenham festivals they specifically raise that limit to 1 million.
If that’s not the case then BBC article is lying. It would hardly be the first time the BBC has lied in fairness.
March 18, 2021 at 16:59 #1530768You need to look lower down, those limits are not for ante-post bets.
“Future racing bets are subject to a maximum payout of £250,000”
It’s been discussed elsewhere, there’s no doubt about it.
March 18, 2021 at 17:23 #1530777Yes looking at the supposed screenshot of the bet you can see it’s been faked.
It shows the 2 ascot races as ‘Antepost’ but it doesn’t show the Cheltenham races as antepost. The BBC caught lying once again.
