Well, I don’t know what he’ll be up against, but Flipper should be running at Kempton on Saturday 27th in a Grade 2 chase over 2 miles. Let’s hope we get over the first fence this time! Jamie will probably ride again (if he’s available), and I’ll probably stick him in an each way double with anything that takes my fancy at long odds in the King George. As Mr Doumen has nothing this year, I might go for Briareus.

Cost me a few quid last time (rev F/C’s with MM) but I hope that the money’s only lent
December 17, 2008 at 16:55 #197635Our Vic e.w. 10/1 NRNB with Stan James for the King George.
Straight there as last year when he was a well beaten 2nd.
He then ran well at Pillar meeting, won the Ryanair at the festival and reversed the KG form when beating Kauto in the Aintree Bowl on a flat 3miles 1f.
The stable is well capable of returning a top performer first time out.
If you take the view that KS isn’t as good (I have) then he has an excellent chance against a host of horses unproven at the trip. And if he doesn’t run you get your cash back…best bet of festive season.
December 17, 2008 at 18:47 #197652Just a word of caution -Sizing Europe was a late withdrawal from that race last year.
You mean the most over hyped crock in many a long year?
We shall deal with this comment about 3pm ish on the 29th Dec.

I may have to whack some reddies on Flipper, he is a great jumper. I need to see what he’s up against, though! Who is riding him, Darren?

December 17, 2008 at 20:06 #197665Ya know what Marble, I’ll take your advice and back Ardaghey.
I did see him run last time (I think) when he came an honourable 2nd – looked in hadicapper’s grip. As you say, though – step up in tip could help.
Worth a punt on your advice, sir!
ZipDecember 18, 2008 at 00:05 #197718who is this ‘Flipper’ we speak of then??

December 18, 2008 at 00:16 #197723Ahhh, makes sense now haha thanks, yeh I was expecting a good run at decent odds last time out but you know…….. Be intresting to see him again.
December 18, 2008 at 00:28 #197727You’re not the only one hoping for better, Evie…the horse is definitely talented, and very interesting to see his oppo next week…

December 18, 2008 at 01:55 #197753Well, I’m with Christian at Ludlow tomorrow, so I’ll ask him how everybodys favourite first fence faller is!! Yes, the plan is the Group 2 chase at Kempton on December 27th, then we’ll take it from there. If he does well at Kempton, we could look at the Victor Chandler possibly, but that’s all in the future. After running such a good race back at Sandown in April, we always thought the best thing would be to aim him at the top 2 mile chases in the UK, and I really think he’s good enough to run in them. He’s possibly just short of top class, but I still think he could have got second in the Tingle Creek if he had stood up.
As for riding plans, we’ve asked Jamie to ride again at Kempton, but we never know if his dad might need him. This has happened tomorrow at Ludlow, where Jamie would have ridden Forfeiter, but he’s needed for his dad, however, we’re delighted to get Tom Scudamore on board. Handy Ben runs in a ladies race, so Jamie wasn’t an option on that one!! He’s versatile, but not THAT versatile!!!

December 19, 2008 at 17:02 #198017Now its moved to Ascot on decent ground, I can’t see past Binocular, whereas I was sure he’d lose on soft or heavy at Cheltenham. But I still believe Our Vic EW in the King George will not fail to return a profit.
