you should get your money back, they should have deleted your selection from the line up once he was declared a non runner.
If your timeline of events are correct,(I don’t doubt you) its a no brainer you get your money back

But he’s only “declared” a non-runner when the final declarations are in, which is 9am, correct?

whatever statement that is put out beforehand is only made “official” once the final declarations are in. If the market is listed as Ante-post then that’s what it is?

To be fair to Corals they have now voided the bet and returned stake!

I thought I was in the right…Christina on live chat, and her supervisor were having none of it…

Phoned them on my dinner break and Stephanie was extremely nice and polite and sorted it no problem!

I’ll just skip live chat in future as it’s a complete waste of time and effort!

Good to hear they have shown some sympathy for your situation… Although as I mentioned before it’s possible that they’d be within their rights to hold on your money, at least from a legal standpoint.

I’d always prefer to speak to a person on the phone.

but if declared a non runner at 8am ( as in contacted weatherbys/bha) how can you back him to win the race 9am?

If Zam backed him at 7.55am I would say unlucky mate you done your dough.

    I maybe wrong (usually am)

I’ve yet to speak/chat to a bookie’s customer service rep who had half a clue about what they were doing. Lord knows the number of unfortunate punters who must just accept that they know what they’re talking about. There must be hundreds of thousands of pounds surrendered every year.

My first experience with Boylesports on live chat ran to almost forty minutes as I tried to persuade staff and, unbelievably, a trader – that betting one horse in the King George and a different one in the Gold Cup could not possibly be a ‘related contingency’ bet.

Anybody who does know what they’re doing probably doesn’t want the job.

Regarding the non runner, think of it from the other angle. If they didn’t refund your bet then they’d also surely have to lay the odds about the other horses as they were with the NR still in the market. I’m sure they were quick enough to suspend the betting on the other horses.

I don’t see how Coral’s call that an Ante Post bet Zamorston, with Paddy Power you can bet on the next day’s card and if your horse is declared non runner bets are refunded. I’d close that account straight away and come over and join Paddy’s Barmy Army:good: Jac

Just seen that you did get your bet refunded Zamorston.. :good: that’s more like it.
Don’t listen to the live chat..load of whingers..LOL

My time as a betting shop manager saw me instilled with the notion that Ante-Post status ended the day before the race in question was due to take place.

Another basic tenet was that you cannot lose on a bet you could not win on. Backing a horse that is already out of the race qualifies for that treatment of the wager.

Sadly, in general, you will get people employed in jobs that they haven’t got an effing clue about. I recall having an each-way place on a golf tournament getting cut in half because my golfer tied for 3rd. The argument was that he had not secured third place outright. Since they were paying 4th place, effectively, my selection was 3rd AND 4th, meaning a full place was due.

I am sure these bookies could get competent staff if they paid enough money. Sadly, that will never happen.

Once, in a Ladbrokes branch, I had a cashier trying to refuse a bet on the 2000 Guineas because, “It’s too far in the future” :negative:

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Zamorston, Where is the info it was withdrawn at 8.00am? Why back a horse ante-post only a few mins before final decs?

As steve says the ignorance of some of the people employed beggars belief.
Several years ago I backed a horse early in the week ante-post, each way, non runner no bet, with Hills for a Hills sponsored sprint on the Saturday. There were about 20 runners when I placed my bet but only 15 ran on the day, my horse finished 4th but the betting shop manager had settled my bet as a loser and wasn’t impressed with my argument. Took several minutes on the phone to head office before someone could drum some knowledge into his brain, he still wasn’t happy about paying me out

Punters arbing is just a red herring anyway, although bookmakers do plenty. Now the likes of Coral/Ladbrokes have stopped guaranteeing early morning prices there is no opportunity at all for punters to arb, even if they did.
