A good job Gary Moore has entered something at Lingfield in the opener on Saturday otherwise it would have been a zero horse race
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
December 11, 2025 at 15:33 #1747240Wonder if he will run all three of his horses being that they are the only ones declared?
Was thinking, ah its Lingfield’s NH course so its bound to be heavy (borderline unraceable) ground yet the RP is listing it as good to soft and Lingfield Park’s own website is giving it as good to soft (soft in places), so zero excuses for the “I’m waiting for better ground brigade” to be swerving the race.
Granted you have Cheltenham and Donny on also but none of Lingfield’s races on the day have attracted a double digit field, with the Novice Limited Handicap Hurdle race having potentially the biggest field size at 9.
December 14, 2025 at 21:51 #1747602Tuesday: Wincanton, “Chasing Excellence’ Beginners’ Chase (GBB Race) (Class 3) (4yo+) – 2m4f.
2 left in, Jeriko du Reponet (Henderson) and Regents Stroll (Nicholls).Wednesday: Newbury, “Chasing Excellence” Beginners’ Chase (GBB Race) (Class 3) 2m6f
7 entered including Jeriko and Regents.Someone should step in, cancel the Wincanton race – give them half the money each for the ‘walkover’ and get them to run Jeriko and Regents at Newbury against Lucky Place, a Mullins horse, Jig’s Forge and Mr Hope Street.
But no, they’ll run at Wincanton instead, barely learning anything in an uncompetitive race and then expect to beat battle-hardened Irish horses in three months’ time. At least give them a proper experience in the bigger field!
Edit:
And there’s a 2m3f Grade 2 Novices Chase at Ascot on Friday. With this on Saturday at Haydock:
“Chasing Excellence” Beginners’ Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+) 2m4fDecember 14, 2025 at 22:16 #1747604“Tuesday: Wincanton, ‘Chasing Excellence’ Beginners’ Chase (GBB Race) (Class 3) (4yo+) – 2m4f.
2 left in, Jeriko du Reponet (Henderson) and Regents Stroll (Nicholls).”Two runners, both of them headcases. It actually might be quite entertaining.
December 15, 2025 at 21:16 #1747660Considering the poor stable form at Ditcheat, I would consider backing Jeriko Du Reponet at 11/8.
The prize money on offer is not bad though…
1st: £9,802.80
2nd: £4,516.20December 15, 2025 at 23:56 #1747673I probably should have made a new thread for this but in the same vein- graduation chases. Now, I like the idea of these as a stepping stone for last year’s novices before they face open company. The one at Haydock on Betfair Chase day is a good race and serves a purpose.
But.
I think they should be for first or second season chasers only, once you’ve won one you cshouldn’t be able to run in another and they should all be finished up by the end of November.
The entries for this Saturday’s Howden Graduation Chase, less than a week before Christmas include two horses who ran in it last year:
James du Berlais- rising 10yo, winner of nearly half a million pounds under Rules and veteran of 17 chase starts, the first of which was not quite three years ago. Placed in big chase handicaps at Leopardstown Christmas festival and DRF, 2nd and 5th in the last two Tophams, won a handicap at the Punchestown festival. Hardly wet behind the ears.
Iroko- 3rd season chaser following the same path as last year- he ran in the Haydock graduation chase last year and this year. 2nd to Grey Dawning at Kelso last year, then a good 4th in the Grand National. If he actually wins the Grand National this year but nothing before or after it, I think he could run in the same Haydock and Ascot graduation chases next year.
Other entries are
Firefox- second season chaser but already won the grade 2 chase at Down Royal that is essentially a graduation chase so- graduate.
Butch- the type of horse this race is for but OTOH , he’s had 3 chase runs including Haydock, just send him handicapping, no loss
Blueking d’Oroux- novice, could run in the novice chase at the same track over a similar trip the day before, no loss
Knappers Hill- rising 10, 3 chase starts, just give him a mark and send him on his way
Dee Capo- mark management, same as JdB and Iroko. Meh.
Out of 11 entries, there are only three 6 year olds, one of whom won’t run (Jeriko). All of the other poor little darling graduation babies who couldn’t possibly run against the grown ups yet are older than 4 of the last 10 Gold Cup winners.December 16, 2025 at 07:01 #1747681Surprised to see Jeriko Du Reponet chasing again. Thought he be going stayers hurdle route this year. Also looks like he needs a trip.
December 16, 2025 at 12:37 #1747689Nico wasn’t really trying, was he? He held him together as they went towards the last, but never pushed except after jumping the last.
December 16, 2025 at 12:48 #1747690Will he be entered in a handicap next to see if the handicapper is willing to give him a mark and check how much it needs massaged? Still a maiden over fences, I would imagine that he won’t run in any more of these beginners’ chases this season (in case he accidentally wins one) then he can have another bite at the Turners next year if he doesn’t win it this year.
December 17, 2025 at 09:39 #1747779Another 2 horse race at Newbury – 11:53. Hendo bravely pitting his 152 rated lucky place against a horse rated just the 19Lbs inferior.
His first go over fences was a strange one. Was jumping great and looked to be flying and then just dropped like a stone from 3 out. Scoped dirty afterwards.
December 17, 2025 at 12:33 #174778719lbs inferior and still beat Lucky Place.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 17, 2025 at 13:48 #1747789Think lucky Place may now revert to Hurdles! Along with Jeriko and Joyeuse.
