March 13, 2002 at 20:45 #98388Jim  Any idiot can tip horses, as you prove everyday.

March 14, 2002 at 00:00 #98391I think everyone on here has to calm down a little. Keith, i am sure does not want to see any harm come to any horse. He is just being honest. He did not wake up in a cold sweat last night over the sad and untilmely death of Vilarimix. There are far more tragic events occurring in the world that SHOULD wind us up. I don’t find anything objectionable in Keith’s rather blunt but fair analysis. People (horse racing fans or not) will look at the two dead horses and say "what a shame, they were great horses" but in a weeks time will either of these horses invade your thoughts for a mere second. I think if you are being honest the answer is no. That is the way people are. They brush things off and get on with it. CYNICAL? Perhaps, but thats the way it is. The haraunging of Keith is quite ridiculous. Their does appear to be rather a lot of moralists on this page. UNFAIR? Possibly, but i read hypocrite for moralists in many cases. The same people who cry (crocodile?) tears over the death of a great horse (an animal at the end of the day = does not equate to a human being) are the very people who sponsor and endorse national hunt racing. And yes i probably will be linched for siding with Keith but there you are, people.
March 14, 2002 at 00:26 #98392i agree, eb, that yes there are more important things to worry about, and the emotions will fade BUT at the same time it’s equally as true that a lot of people felt sadness when they heard the news of valiramix. i believe that’s a very genuine emotion borne from a ‘normal’ human reaction to seeing any living thing with a name die in front of them, also out of sympathy for the connections (in this case an elderly gentleman who will be feeling terrible about now) and lastly out of sadness that we will never watch this horse run again
all this is perfectly natural and i dont think particulary hypocrtical..if you like horse racing you accept that animals die but you that doesnt mean you can’t feel sorry for them..if you own a cat/dog and see it get run over then of course you are going to grieve and other people witnessing it would feel sad too..but we still own pets, watch them die AND feel sad when it happens..
if people want to come on here and share emotions then why not..if ktt doesnt like it then why does he read it??
March 14, 2002 at 00:58 #98394A slight change of subject, but I was wondering whether re-siting the penultimate fence on the Old Course would be a good idea, after watching the similar falls of Latalomne and Japhet today. These were the sorts of falls that often are fatal, it’s not the first time I’ve seen that sort of fall at that fence, and I doubt it will be the last.
March 14, 2002 at 13:30 #98395. It makes you want to give up.â€ÂÂ
March 14, 2002 at 13:39 #98396Pipe gives a good example of what I’ve been saying.  If you don’t mean it don’t say it.
