Aces is fit and well. and unless he’s mentally scared by the fall (which i doubt) he’ll go on to surprise a few more people this year.
He reminds me a bit of Barton Bank. He’s a nice horse but I doubt he’ll be quite top class.
August 22, 2007 at 17:20 #112185I think we’re in for a great season, but perhaps that’s just my youthful exuberance!
Katchit; that’ll be a great set-to over the season with him & Sublimity, that is of course if we see much of the Champion before March. Still think though that if we get easy ground at all on CH day that it’s Sublimity’s to lose.
The staying chasers look to have a potentially great division this term. We could if we’re very lucky have Kauto Star, Exotic Dancer, Denman, My Way De Solzen, Aces Four, Trabolgan & Kicking King all fighting it out. Granted, some of them have more class than others, but I’ve not seen as good a depth of talent in there for years.
Got two AP bets already, such is my excitement
; Monet’s garden for the Champion Chase (at around 20’s), and the old romantic in me took Kicking King at 50’s or so to return and recapture the old spark!August 22, 2007 at 17:29 #112186I just hope Katchit is not another Detroit City – brilliant juvenile, flop in all age races.
The one thing Katchit did last season was thrive on his racing, so I think it’s very safe to assume we will see a lot of him Friggo – well I hope so anyway.
Being a Northern Lad, I follow Ferdy Murphy which proved very profitable last season – but one horse who owes me a hell of a lot is Nine De Sivola. I went big at Cheltenham when he fell at the top of the hill while going well, I went big in Ireland when he was 2nd in the Irish National, I went big at Ayr when he was 2nd in the Scottish National.
So yes, you’ve guessed it, I’ve already backed him for the Grand National ante post

August 22, 2007 at 19:01 #112192Agreed Friggo the staying chasing division looks incredibly strong. I think we’re living through a little bit of a golden era.
August 22, 2007 at 19:28 #112195Being a self-confessed Ruby groupie, I’m looking forward to seeing how Paul Nicholls campaigns his big guns: Kauto, Denman, Star de Mohaison (if he can come back), Taranis and Twist Magic. I have a particular soft spot for the latter.
August 22, 2007 at 19:42 #112196I don’t usually look forward to the end of the flat season, as apart from the cheltenham festival and the odd good w/end racing, the jumps season is usually full of dross, horses who couldn’t get out of their own way so send them hurdling.
For what its worth, I am looking forward to the underrated Sublimity thumping them all again in the Champion Hurdle, Katchit included.August 22, 2007 at 19:46 #112198Bewleys Berry landing the National and Gungadu landing something else which is a big race (but I’ve not yet put my finger on).
August 22, 2007 at 20:36 #112202Looking forward to seeing Kauto star but who isn’t! also looking forward to see Kicking King and how good a come back he will make

I think he’ll do alright again, just so long as that comprehensive itinerary doesn’t include lunking top weight around in a lot of the big handicap hurdles – for which, being the size of a small chicken / compsognathus, he doesn’t strike me as especially well suited.

August 22, 2007 at 21:51 #112214Surely Monets Garden will be aimed at the Ryanair again, especially seen as it’s a Gr1 this season
August 22, 2007 at 22:03 #112216I am looking forward to seeing if Exotic Dancer can improve again, I thought the progress last season was impressive.
I also am looking forward to Halcon Genelardais who I hope will have a big season.

I have no doubt that Katchit will make the race track more than enough times this year to entertain us, like you say he seemed to get the most out of a busy campaign last term. My worry is connection’s reluctance to run Sublimity on anything faster than marshland!
August 23, 2007 at 00:00 #112224Purple Moon — He must be quite well handicapped over timber I reckon
August 23, 2007 at 00:54 #112228Purple Moon — He must be quite well handicapped over timber I reckon

OK DJ, I’m very drunk at this stage and haven’t been arsed to look at Purple Moon’s efforts over timber – but my recollection is that he flopped big time didn’t he – some horses take to jumps some horses don’t – it’s the only discipline where a 35 rated seller can beat a 110 rated group horse

But maybe Purple Moon’s recent form on the flat entitles him to be a very good hurdler, so if he is tried over timber again, then fingers crossed he can convert his current form (and rating) to the NH game.
Mike
UPDATE: OK, I wont try and cheat and pretend I didn’t write the above. I have just read Purple Moon’s form over hurdles and realised that he wasn’t a flop at all, and in fact, like DJ said, he could be very well treated indeed now that he seems to have regained his zest for racing.

Looking forward to all jumping. Love Well Chief, Exotic Dancer. Most looking forward to seeing a bumper horse I have just sold to Alan King.August 23, 2007 at 08:50 #112245Staying Chasing game looks like there could be some mouth watering clashes, Nicholls certainly will have to get the old grey matter to keep his apart – so much so that Ante Post on Kauto Star in the Champ Chase might not be such a terrible bet. Kauto Star obviously a lot to look forward to. Denman looks top notch.
Katchit, don’t think it will cut the mustard doesn’t have size and scope to progress to beat big Guns.
Most looking forward to tho Ruby Walsh getting that pig Ouinophophia – apologies spelling – to win a big handicap – probably starting with the one Deserst Quest won last season (William Hill is it). I wonder why i dont win at the gee gees with my soft spot for the thinking horses
