I guess the stable losing someone like Shane Fetherstonhaugh would be a blow. The reality is that quite a few owners took their horses away from the stable at the end of last season. Warren Place has 58 horses and Sir Michael Stoute has over 150. I would expect any talented rider would be looking to engineer a better chance of being on high class horses and sharing in higher win bonuses; it is normal human nature. He may well have been head-hunted, which is just what would be expected. With only half the number of horses at Warren Place as in recent years, many staff will have had to leave, and some others may well look for better opportunities. It is tough for the team’s leaders to lose good staff; it is tough for the team members to have fewer horses in the yard.
It is unlikely that anyone would think that the new leadership at Warren Place would have the same level of talent, skill and experience as Sir Henry. They must know that they have not just lost his abilities, but also his drawing power. So the current team will have to concentrate all the time on doing everything to the best of their ability. If they are moderately successful they will attract more owners and horses next year.
I do wonder if any of the owners who left might regret their decision. Without the great man’s guiding hand, so far this year the statistics are:
Runners: 39
Winners: 11
Placed: 15Win percentage: 28%
Win or Placed percentage: 69%There are indications that they may have retained a lot of the knowledge they learned from Sir Henry over the years. Will they have done enough by the end of the year to deserve a fuller stable next year? We shall see.
May 23, 2014 at 21:26 #479891A very good post Sir , agree verbatim , its hard to expect Lady C , to have any skills as a trainer , but in fairness , both herself and the team assisting are doing a darn good job so far
well done them

Very good 2 days got Lady C and her team
Hopefully the Prince will maybe think of sending more nice horses her wayMay 25, 2014 at 21:19 #480208Absolutely BM. A great day for Warren Place and delighted for Lady Cecil. That famous flag is raised once more!
There is no doubt that Noble Mission has improved this year and it was interesting to see how delighted Teddy was. I hope this result will encourage the Prince to keep sending them his good horses. So far they have done all they could and the horses have by and large run to form. May it long continue.

Totally agree Joni and dare I say Lady Cecil has brought NM on more than the Legend himself.
Think from a Juddmonte point of view only Retirement Plan has been a negative. Hopefully he’s out soon and back to winning ways.May 27, 2014 at 13:38 #480308Looks like Warren Place is the last refuge of a crumbling stock which boyscout like raises flags of some sort to celebrate conquests of another sort. Then hurry home for tea. Can’t, for the life of me, understand the lack of interest amongst the young.
May 27, 2014 at 17:50 #480325The win to runs ratio this season has been fantastic.
Noble Mission has improved hand over fist.
Team Lady Jane have been a credit and I bet Sir Henry is looking down with a grin on his chops.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
