Marvellous live version of Elvis Costello performing Watching The Detectives, Koln, Germany June 1978.
September 10, 2013 at 15:11 #450800Very good P’n’P. Saw EC live in Bristol many years ago, he’s a cool dude.

Parallel Lines was the first album I ever bought with my own pennies, free will & volition.Currently enjoying a bit of the late, great Ian D, but can’t seem to find a live version on UT for this one, so it’s an as recorded I’m afraid.

September 17, 2013 at 22:42 #451618RIP Ian, hope Wilko doesn’t join you too soon Anyone see Wilko on his farewell tour?
September 18, 2013 at 23:45 #451740Kate and Johnny with deserved awards.
Note that Kate says thanks to someone called Henry Cecil, or is that my ears playing up again?

Saw Wilko supporting The Stranglers a couple of years ago,he’s still as mad as his Bass player but boy can he play!
September 25, 2013 at 21:04 #452359He certainly can TAPK. Saw The Stranglers myself, late eighties I think at Shepton Mallet Showground.
Anyway, I’m impressed by the way that Wilko is handling his terminal illness. Don’t think I’d be so brave as to refuse chemo if there might be a small chance that it could help to prolong life, then again you’d have to look at the downside of its affects as well. Suppose we can’t say what we’d do until we may be faced with the decision ourselves.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
September 25, 2013 at 21:42 #452363I saw The Stranglers in Glasgow Apollo Theatre during the 70s (The Skids supported ). Hugh Cornwall invited audience members up on stage to pogo – whch many did; and when the bouncers intervened, Jean Jacques Burnel ( black belt 5th Dan Karate ) removed his bass, laid it carefully down, before aiming a well delivered roundhouse kick to the head of one of the penguin suited "security" core, laying him spark out. All hell broke loose. Crazy stuff.
Anyway, back to proper music. Right now, I’m going through my Tom Waits’ back catalogue. The man’s a genius.

September 25, 2013 at 22:30 #452375Great to see 2 respected contributors have also had the pleasure of seeing the worlds geatest band live.JJ still kicks off with audience violation, one chucked a pint of Lager at him at Liverpool last year and he was in the crowd before you could say ‘I feel like a Wog’.As for Wilko Johnson, the guys been around for 40yrs and to this day he is Mr Original,no-one plays nor moves like Wilko Johnson!
This is a modern day Classic Stranglers track for your pleasure.Listen to the warbling keyboards, the thumping Bass, drums simple but keepin it together and a razor sharp strat, powerful lyrics too that tell you not to take yourself too seriously!
