Tough Question would imagine the same as driving a car. Wonder how he got to the races :)

If they had breathalyzed the Northern jockey’s on New Years day back in Big Ron’s day none of them would have been riding for 30 days. Used to think it was quite funny and have ridden out well over thge limit myslef, but as you get older and hopefully much more sensible you realise how dangerous it could be on a racecourse.

Was this Carberry’s first offence? if it was fine but if not they never banned him long eough

There’s a long and complicated explanation contained with the new online set of rules of racing.

But essentially, the breath testing is random in terms of when it is done and all jockeys at a chosen meeting can be tested.

The lower limit is 17 mls, which I think is half the driving limit, and any reading over that requires that the jockey then provide a urine sample. They are automatically banned for that day if over the breath test limit and can subsequently be banned for more days.

    Fist,

It was a second offence for Carberry, hence the length of his ban. I’ve no idea how the Irish system works, or what the limits are over there, although it seems reasonable to assume they’d be the same.

The only thing this ban is going to do is increase Carberry Hero status in Irish Racing.

The man is a hero to all you NH Jockeys in Ireland….they all want to be him or Ruby Walsh.

Carberry will go hunting all those days his is off with the rest of the Carberry clan aswell as the locals and go back in to the fire for a big pishh up afterwards.

In saying that he should know better before the night of a race meeting. Its not like Ireland is chock a block with fixtures.

    I can’t see him giving it up……
