Typical jumps racing, unorganised amateur chaos.
Flat anyday for me, more sophisticated.
October 9, 2010 at 16:20 #321551I prefer the jumps but that is uncalled for.

How is National Hunt racing to blame?
Complete nonsense.
October 9, 2010 at 16:23 #321554That’s a real gem of a comment Mr.Wilson
October 9, 2010 at 17:08 #321557One of the nice things about racing is the accessibility of the horses, jockeys and trainers. You can see the animals up close, talk to the trainers, kids can easily get an autograph. Unfortunately as RFC and others try to attract more areas of society who are not actually that interested in the sport and more interested in getting pissed-up I feel this sort of thing, and more abuse of jockeys, will happen increasingly often.
October 9, 2010 at 17:22 #321559National hunt or flat does that really have anything to do with things like this.I’m all for racing reaching out to the wider market but do get concerned we could see more of this i’n the future.let’s hope not.
October 9, 2010 at 17:24 #321560I’ve never seen Ruby like that, he was absolutely fuming and rightly so.

Perhaps you would like to cast your mind back to the recent Lingfield brawl where a punter punched a jockey. Very sophisticated!
October 9, 2010 at 18:16 #321565There is an accident waiting to happen here. First Kieren Fallon attacked last year by an idiot now this incident.
Something needs doing to secure the safety of horses and jockeys BEFORE something serious happens.
October 9, 2010 at 18:24 #321567One of the pleasures of racing is getting up close to the action.
Incidents such as the one described by Matthew will only serve to be the death knell of that.
Mr W – you come with me some autumnal Saturday afternoon to Kelso and then we’ll go to York or Haydock on a mid-summer Saturday (Magnet Cup day, say) and we’ll see who are the sophisticated or well-behaved audience.
October 9, 2010 at 18:42 #321571Agreed totally Cormack.
This summer 2 of us at work who are racing enthusiasts went to Haydock with 6 female work colleagues who had never been to the races before.
They had to contend with hundreds of drunks publicly urinating, several being sick, not to mention lewd comments and one actually being groped until we intervened.
I was absolutely appalled as were they, and all swore that they would never return.
Welcome to racing ? I think not !October 9, 2010 at 18:51 #321576Coggy, that’s terrible in particular for the girls.
I love a good drink and get into the spirit of having the odd winner and seeing the gorgeous girls at ascot but that’s going overboard what you’ve described.
October 9, 2010 at 18:52 #321578Cannot disagree with any of the sentiments mentioned here, apart from the nonsense written by Mr Wilson.
I remember the days at Sandown when drinkers weren’t allowed out of the grandstand with a pint in their hands, those days are long since gone now especially at places like Aintree on National day when every other step I make is on plastic glasses.
October 9, 2010 at 18:57 #321580It isn’t just drink though, there’s alot of drugs being done at racecourses, I’ve seen it in the toilets, especially in the south.

And yet it would seem that my friends Racing for Change care little about this. As long as they attract "new racegoers" they’re probably happy whatever the type of people they get through the gates.
Again, something needs doing about the conduct of certain racegoers at certain racecourses. Its pretty well known what occurs at certain courses and yet nothing is done about it. That is not acceptable. It appears it is largely tolerated because these idiots are of financial benefit to courses.

Echo what Ian said
Surprised RFC don’t have a "Chemist of the Month" award with the amount of drugs around at summer concert meetings
