Brackley have been going well. Which is more than can be said for the Sandgrounders. Only one win in the league since the end of October and in serious danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle.
It is away at Alfreton Town tonight, which has never been a happy hunting ground. The game on Saturday at Radcliffe is starting to look like a six pointer.
I have been to the last two home games. I thought we played quite well against Chorley and were much the better side in a 0-0 draw. But the performance against Spennymoor was poor. The team was booed off at half time and at the end.
Unfortunately Jim Bentley is starting to lose the fans. He didn’t give an interview for the YouTube channel after the defeat against Buxton on Saturday. He really needs a win to settle a few nerves.
Meanwhile, Marine today announced ambitious plans for a new stadium while Haig Avenue continues to crumble and the club’s majority shareholder is under investigation by the Charity Commission…
February 7, 2025 at 19:30 #1719996CAS Good win at Alfreton, should ease your relegation fears
.
Banbury have money issues, they are looking to move from 100% fan owned to takeover for some financial input, bearing in mind, they do not own their ground any more and the lease runs out after next season.
Great to see you pop back with some input..

Ongoing -140.55February 8, 2025 at 13:06 #1720086It certainly was a great win at Alfreton. I hope we can keep it going at Radcliffe today. Our away form has been quite good, with draws at Chester and Hereford as well as the victory in Derbyshire.
I am making my first away trip of the season, so I am hoping for a good performance.
Southport to win at 7/4.
February 9, 2025 at 07:45 #1720166A 4-1 defeat. That was an enjoyable away trip! I would have been better off staying at home and watching the racing.
2-0 down after 12 minutes and it was as good as game over. We were lucky not to be 5-0 down at the interval. One lad missed a great chance, they had a decent penalty shout turned down and another effort might have crossed the line.
I left not long after the third goal went in. I don’t like doing that but it allowed me to get an earlier train. There was no point waiting around for a miracle that was never going to happen.
At least the other results went our way. It is still 10 points clear of the relegation zone, so no real damage was done. Rushall lost 5-1 at home and chaotic Farsley managed to lose 6-1 to Needham Market.
Southport play Farsley on 18th February. That is one game where 3 points is a must. We play Brackley away in the match afterwards – and I doubt we are going to get anything there!
Brackley could do us a favour next week by defeating Marine. Even though they are bottom, the Crosby side are only 3 points from safety. I have a feeling they will escape, with Farsley, Warrington, Rushall and Needham Market being the four relegated teams.
Southport need 4 wins from 16 games. Farsley is a priority. The home games against Leamington, Scarborough and Oxford City look winnable. And there are away trips to Rushall, Warrington and Marine.
February 9, 2025 at 14:46 #1720190I feel your pain CAS, its a nightmare any supporter will have had this type of result at some point.
Many years back at on a Friday at the old Vetch in Swansea, I decided to attended on the supporters coach. We lost heavily 4-1, but could not leave early. That is one of only two Cobbs matches I ever went by coach to, the other being Millwall away.
I dont see Southport being relegated, the bottom 4 have played a similar number of matches and are 10 points below you. Although you do have a tough run coming up, that Farsley Celtic midweek match is a not loose one. Brackley dont have a game that night, so Id suspect Southport maybe a bit tired on the Saturday.
There is commentary available via the Brackley website, no sign ups needed.
Unfortunately Im away that weekend watching the egg chasers, Italy V France.February 9, 2025 at 14:53 #1720191Banbury losing at Hitchin, a surprise, but then reflecting on it, perhaps the midweek match against Kettering was a factor. One has to remember that these are part timers and only train on Thursday nights.
Brackley won a tight match against Peterborough Sports 1-0.
No joy on the correct scores.

Chorley favs at 6/4 as they are on a good run, Brackley priced up at 9/5.
Well I checked google maps, no major traffic issues on the North bound M6 tonight, so the lads should have a smooth trip up to Lancs.

Ongoing -143February 16, 2025 at 13:27 #1720756Another good win for Brackley, keeping alive their title hopes. It looks like being an exciting end to the season with five clubs in with a realistic chance of the title and automatic promotion.
It was another 0-0 draw for Southport. The fifth of the season at Haig Avenue. I could not attend yesterday but the verdict on the fan forum seems to be it was a good performance with a draw being a fair result.
Next up is Farsley Celtic on Tuesday, a team in disarray both on and off the pitch (although the new manager might stabilise the club). They are having to play their “home” matches at Buxton.
Farsley were beaten 3-0 by struggling Leamington on Saturday and conceded 6 the week before. They look there for the taking and Southport should be looking to take all three points.
I said on the fan forum that I would happily settle for 4 points from Darlington and Farsley. I just hope Jim Bentley sets up positively on Tuesday rather than the defensive mindset he has fallen into so much.
February 18, 2025 at 10:49 #1720827Best prices for tonight: Southport 2/11, Farsley 16/1!
I cannot bet against my own team, even at those prices! But for any neutral, Farsley have got to be worth a punt at those prices. If any team can manage to lose to them, the Sandgrounders can!
February 19, 2025 at 09:50 #1720862At least Southport got the job done last night. I believe it wasn’t pretty but getting the 3 points was all that mattered.
Playing in front of a crowd of only 75 cannot have been very inspiring. I know it was midweek and Farsley are having to play their “home” matches far from home but that is still pitiful. South Liverpool get a larger crowd in Tier 5.
I could have done without Marine beating Kidderminster but to be fair it was a great result for the Crosby side. As was Radcliffe beating Chorley.
It doesn’t excuse our woeful performance last week but it might be that we were unfortunate to run into a team finding a bit of form. I think Radcliffe are a decent side and ought to be a few places higher up the table.
