December 3, 2009 at 16:53 #261957Couldn’t the settings, new messages and view, up on the right hand corner be made just a little more obvious?
Is anyone going to notice if someone has sent them a PM?

December 3, 2009 at 17:13 #261962We’ve moved it to a more discreet position colin as we had complaints previously that it was too obtrusive. What we’re planning is that we’ll live with it as it is for a wee while and then solicit feedback after people have had some time with it.

December 3, 2009 at 18:32 #261972Are we to conclude that it’s now ‘job done’ tweaks-wise?
While it is rightly considered poor form to unduly criticise the efforts of those good enough to give freely of their spare time, doing work voluntarily should not be seen as an excuse to do that work badly; and the user-interface of this site is, IMVVHO baaad – ugly, garish and, were it not for the fact that we know what TRF’s backroom web design boffins are actually quite capable of, you’d swear it was the rushed, shoddy work of amateurs. Bodge and scarper.
This icon thing in the box is presumably meant to be an ‘i’ for ‘information’. It reminds me of a Mr. Man or the ghost of ID peering in from cyber purgatory.
What on earth was wrong with the neat list of posters’ details where this ethereal box now resides?
The poster’s name as a bold red header is brash, tacky and detracts from message text
As for the ‘wrote…’ that is simply syntactically wrong particularly if followed by a quote which (correctly) begins ‘wrote’ too
Others have mentioned the unpleasant glare of the brilliant white background and the unfathomably strange decision to leave the quote box white too.
Why on earth did you return the background to white from the pleasant eye-friendly grey you introduced following the feedback you so eagerly sought when the new website was first launched?
And presumably it’s no more than an oversight on your part that change in font colour[/color:2yvrrnar], italicized and underlined text defaults to bold, which will be rectified in due course
Personally I’ve always taken pride in doing what can loosely be termed ‘voluntary’ work, as by choosing to do it implies you care about it
Are you proud of this ‘end result’ Cormack et al?
In writing this unecessarily long post I’m laying myself open to charges of being tedious, boring, churlish, unthankful, anally-retentive and really should find something more worthwhile to occupy my waking thoughts. So be it.
If others are happy with the interface, fine. Just mark me down as an odd old sod and ignore.
On the plus side, loading speed and ease of navigation are excellent and have been for quite a while
December 3, 2009 at 19:44 #261983The baaad drew me in here
So you think the cheese is off Drone ?
Trouble is before I lost my post
only three guests were looking in here
They could have been admin but chances
are they weren’t.I would agree with your points in the main
and although only a flibbitygibbit
on here will add some canker…Didn’t know grey had been agreed
I prefer the light light blue of the old Ikon
so restful to the eye and any lecturer
will advise – a colour to aid concentration. The four sticky threads over dominate
all I see when I open the page
Any chance of moving them possibly
to the right ?Where are the user stats ?
On the plus
recent forum topics are useful.
Strangely with them in place earlier
there would have been far less argument
over the old word association thread
that killed at least one member
and maimed a lotI could go on
December 3, 2009 at 20:23 #261985So you think the cheese is off Drone ?
It’s an unpleasant odour G, though not yet that of a repellent liquified Camembert with its signature deathly-white crust
More that of plasticky Gouda with too many holes in it
I long for a Stilton: blue-veined yet red-blooded, maturing slowly within a light grey muslin wrap
December 3, 2009 at 20:32 #261987Drone – points all taken. While we can’t please all the people all the time some of your comments have been echoed elsewhere and we’ll act on them.
I am pretty proud of it though – we’ve had lots of really positive feedback but we also realise still lots to do.
The feedback (good and bad) is really helpful though, keep it coming.
(btw – we went from grey to white then back to somewhere in between – current is an off-white, slightly grey.)
December 3, 2009 at 20:35 #261989Gamble –
If you hover over the dreaded ‘i’ with your mouse you’ll see a wee box with the stats in it.December 3, 2009 at 20:37 #261990SORRY TO TRUMP YER OFF WHITE CORMACK
Oh I have to hover do I

Camambert eh,
my eyesight is poor
and last time I bought some
I tried to remove an old man’s shoe.I like Roquefort
and gogonzola
yes I do enjoy the odd stilton. As far as the dearth of readers
I have a solution to thatlet’s have some dancing bears…
Pual Ostermeyer looping the loop
Grimes parting the red sea
and Jim discussing the merits of
a nuclear clock
whilst sitting on the tipDecember 4, 2009 at 09:13 #262032Gamble – The site had more visitors last month than in it’s history. We monitor figures closely and results since the revamp have been very positive.
But, as I keep saying, we welcome the feedback as we want to keep improving.
December 4, 2009 at 10:21 #262035Well the bright lights have certainly attracted the ramblings of attention-seeking wanna-be likely-to-never-be academics from the Infants corner of the Junior Common Room
Being the fuddiest of dudderers I find these text-speak closed-shop wankfests incomprehensible, though am quite prepared to believe there’s a code within them, known only to the under-21s with portable telephones welded to their lug ‘oles, that spells Horse Racing
December 4, 2009 at 11:08 #262042A "Ben" layout for a forum full of "Brians"

Have you checked out Darren’s (anglo german) site, Drone. Visual poetry imo.
December 4, 2009 at 12:49 #262054Thanks CR
Very nice too. Minimalist, clear and attractive justified text, easy on the eye, and informative
Congrats Darren
Cordially yours
Brian O’BrienDecember 17, 2009 at 23:42 #264314The edit facility should only be available for a short time after one has posted something. It seems to be everlasting.Don’t suppose that’s a big deal on here, but imagine the fun the betfair boys would have with that on their forum.
