My finger’s hovering above the old boy Joe Farrell at the mo, back down to his Scottish National winning mark. Seems to be more at home on a sounder surface, although ran a fair third in the Midlands National when it was bottomless. He’s got a fair swing at the weights with the two that finished in front of him that day and I’d give him an each-way squeak at 40s.

Joe Farrell on my shortlist now too Tom.

With Seeyouatmidnight not going, I won’t have another Antepost here, and still too big a shortlist……

    Joe Farrell
    Lord Du Mesnil
    Ramses Des Teille
    Vieux Lion Rouge
    Yala Enki

Preference for Ramses at the moment, but I’ll wait now.

Secret Reprieve must have a huge chance here. He would be my main selection, but I’ll definitely have Yala Enki as a backup.

I’ll go with Didero Vallis of Venetia’s here. 33-1 ew 5 places will do for me.

Lord Du Mesnil looks rock solid here and I expect a big run.

Vieux Lion Rouge was brilliant at Aintree and coming here off the same mark is difficult to ignore.

The Hollow Ginge was a bit of a revelation in the Ladbroke and nothing to suggest he can’t improve going further.

    They’d be my three.

I think this looks right up Dominateur’s street. He doesn’t
do anything fast so this extra distance and ground should see him at his best.
He seems right at home at Chepstow winning on his last 2 visits. Very well
spotted by Yogi earier on and getting a cracking bet at 25s. He’s 16s with
Bet365 and I think he’s still very good value at those odds.

    Dominateur 16/1 Bet365

    Dominateur 25\1 ew

Decided I’m definitely going to go with Ramses De Teille here, but at current price, I’m as well waiting, can’t see it contracting too much.

Stablemate Vieux Lion Rouge is still on the shortlist too, and he’ll be backup if he goes.

My bet was voided for Dominateur at 16/1 with Bet365, but they
go the same price again. He’s best priced 12/1 elsewhere. I can’t see that price
    lasting too much longer.

I’ve just checked and my Bet365 bet on Dominateur from the 23rd Dec is still apparently valid – the date of the race has been changed to 9th Jan on it as well. My Willy Hill bets on the same race are also listed as current although the race date for these remains at 27th Dec!?!

Ramses De Teillee for me @ 12/1 EW. I fancied him over Christmas but was worried the race would come too soon after Aintree, so personally delighted at an extra 2 weeks. On paper that Aintree run looks like a shocker because he’s 7th and beaten 94L, but it really wasn’t. He didn’t take to the fences at all and it was a run littered with mistake after mistake. Despite this, he kept delivering himself back into the race, travelled eye catchingly strongly, the mistakes just caught up with him. He looked to me like a horse in rude health that day, and I thought he had an experience advantage over some of the market principles here. He’s run very well in this race before, will love the heavy conditions and the Pipe yard are in form with a 30% strike rate over the last 14 days. He doesn’t leap off the page as a brilliant bet, it’s more of a gentle building of ticks in the plus column. I think he’ll really enjoy being back at Chepstow over their obstacles vs Aintree. I’d like to see Tom Scudamore ride him up with the pace (if there is any) because making up ground at Chepstow on heavy will be challenging but yeh, 5 places 12/1 EW RDT feels solid enough to me.

Springfield fox and lord du mesnil for me

Both had handicap mark saving preps over a trip too short or over hurdles

    @oscar

Seems strange that they have kept some bets valid for the 9th, and paid out others,
like mine. Fortunately for me they returned my cash with my bet at 16/1 on Dominateur
and I still managed to get the 16s with them this time so no need for me to complain.
I hope they kept Yogi’s bet on Dominateur at 25s, I’d be a bit miffed if I were him
if it were returned, with 16s being the best odds offered, whilst some bets still stood.
    Seems Strange
