    Thank you David,

your thread header "well done the Irish" is just what I wanted one of you celtic fans to admit, now the neutrals that read my other thread on this will know I was telling the truth

as for your statement –:lol::lol: you must be over excited with the result as that was celtics first win in five games against Rangers and their first goals

I also didn’t see you anywhere after the last old firm game. :D

I was going to delete this thread but why should I save you from embarrassment.

    thank you again.

    Nice one!

As a Liverpool fan I guess I’m bound to cheer for the Bhoys, but for some reason I can’t stand the green and white half of Glasgow and instead find myself paying that they’ll get turned over every week.

Even after tonight’s victory it’s still Rangers’s title to lose with two games in hand.

Celtic will have to beat Aberdeen at the weekend and then Rangers again next weekend to have any chance. That would leave them 5pts clear but with 3 games extra played but their momentum should see them through the remainder of the season without a hitch while the pressure would be back on Rangers.

    Can’t see it myself though.

As a season tkt holder at "Paradise" and follower of Celtic for many decades, I must say the title of the thread does not sit easy with me. Shameful title and one which is misrepresentative of what Celtic fc is about – in spite what Jim the bluenose says.

That aside, we thoroughly deserved our victory against the anti-footballing other half of Glasgow : the first half was so one sided I thought at one point that the loyal cardigan was going to instruct Aunt Sally (McCoist) to throw in the blue towel.

What a wonder strike from Nakamura. 8) Pick that one out McGregor.

The scenes at the end of the game were borne out of Rangers’ frustration at losing to a never say die Celtic team – when they thought their usual spoiling tactics were going to prevail once again.

Rangers are still favourites for the SPL title, but we will make them and their fans sweat just that little more.

Well stop winding up David as it can get people into trouble, I have the opinion that you meant it anyway but never mind I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt :)

The Liverpool fans sing a re-worded version of the Fields of Athenry, which was written by a Celtic fan and first sung by Celtic fans. The Liverpool fans picked up on it when they heard Celtic fans singing the song and came up with… The Fields of Anfied Road. Mind you, Celtic fans borrowed ( )You’ll Never Walk Alone, which Liverpool borrowed from Gerry & The Pacemakers, who in turn borrowed the song from the musical, Carousel.

Incidentally, Old Firm fans are an overly sensitive breed by the nature of their sworn allegiances. They hate any criticism of their respective clubs – no matter how innocent the content or tongue in cheek the intent. I know, we are a very sad lot indeed. wink:

I believe it wasn’t a wind up when he posted but now believe it’s a wind up – it always is AFTER the event.

He’s Irish after all not British

Jim – has it occured to you that the reason Celtic have such strong Irish affinity is that a significant number of their support have Irish ancestry and that they were founded within the Irish community in Glasgow? What is the big problem with them celebrating their roots and their history? That is a positive thing surely.

Harder, I’d have thought, to understand some Rangers fans obsession with the Union flag? What is the basis for that obsession within the clubs fanbase?

The Hillsborough memorial game was played against Celtic in 1989, only a few days after the event, and the reception they gave the travelling Liverpool fans was superb. Whether anything existed between the two clubs prior to this, I don’t know.

You’ll Never Walk Alone was supposedly adopted by Liverpool fans before their Scottish counterparts, with the cover by Gerry and the Pacemakers (in either ’63 or ’64) making it exceedingly popular. I have a feeling though that the song was actually first sung (at a football match) by Manchester United supporters, though that is unsubstantiated.

Corm, yes I know histories and all about the Irish connection but my point is this, Celtic no matter what their fans think are still a Scottish/British team, Rangers have an Irish following too but those Irishmen still class themselves at British. (they even wear their countries football top which is green, no problems there then) 8)

Rangers fans love the union flag because firstly it’s the flag of Britain/UK and after all we are British, secondly it happens to be the colours of our club so it’s fitting and correct to use it, we also use the saltire (st andrews flag) and the lion rampant flag which is yellow with a red lion on it because we are Scottish (I don’t need to tell you all this), I’m sure most other teams in the SPL would use the union flag if it were their colours too, do you ever see a saltire used by Celtic fans at Celtic park? if you do they’ll have it in green instead of blue. Hearts have the saltire in maroon, I’m sure Hibs have one in green. (do you see what I’m getting at)

Now, the bottom line to all this daftness for want of a better word is that I started a thread heading that was correct (well done the Brits), David started his thread probably in retaliation even though his was incorrect (Celtic aren’t Irish) but I didn’t mind him doing it, all I did was point out that he proved to a point that he was combining Celtic with being Irish, just like many but not all Celtic fans do.

they may have Irish connections but they are a Scottish side therefore are British too.

Britons should be proud of the the union flag just like each individual country in the UK are of their own national flag.

    I know I am.

‘Tis thy flag and my flag,
The best of flags on earth.
    So cherish it my children
It’s yours by right of birth.
    Your fathers fought,
    Your fathers died,
To raise it to the skies
And we like them must never yield
    But keep it flying high.

Rangers and Celtic are both Scottish sides, playing in the Scottish League, and representing the Scottish FA when playing in Europe.
    .

Ofcourse they are thats been my point from the outset, but they are also British teams too just like Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal are even though they represent England.

we are all British even though we have our own individual National identities under the UK.

“firstly it’s the flag of Britain/UK and after all we are British, secondly it happens to be the colours of our club so it’s fitting and correct to use”

Jim – unless you are astonishingly naive and attend Ibrox with a pair of large ear defenders and a blindfold (none of which is the case I suspect) you will be only too aware that neither of those two admirable reasons can be associated with the parading of the Union flag by Rangers supporters. It’s done, almost exclusively I would suggest, to goad and p**s off the Irish Nationalist element on the other side of Glasgow. A quick perusal of the slogans often daubed on the flags would quickly establish that fact.

Let’s not kid ourselves on here.

No way Corm, that’s ridiculous but if that’s what you think then maybe that’s where the problem lies.

One of my own union flags has the words "we are the people" written across it surely that’s not offending anyone?
