I’ve always liked the breeders cup but this year was better than ever
    because
the beating to a pulp of a horses wasn’t there, 6 hits permitted now
and the use of lasix has also gone
these were my two biggest turn offs to the breeders cup so well done. :good:
I can just about cope with the tight track

I just liked being able to unmute and listen to female pundits who, rather than being employed as eye candy, actually understood the game in such depth they knew what fractions horses should, or shouldn’t, be doing.

Made ITV Racing look like….well, I won’t say on a church day!

I always criticising the American racing but then there’s something about the Breeder’s Cup that sucks me in.

The overall coverage is so captivating. Great racing this year helped, and yes they are becoming a bit more humane about it all……i don’t particularly consider the amount of whip uses a thing, but i know over there they abused it badly.

I think it was a unique meeting with high quality racing reminding us that two days can provide you with more thrills than four or five.

Look at Flightline winning the Classic (I think he could have won any race on dirt), Ryan Moore proving to be the just about the best in the world (three winners, three seconds from just seven rides), Charlie Appleby sending the right horses over there (three winners and two placed from just seven runners), same applies to Aiden who also had three winners from just seven runners.

The ground was perfect and yes, the TV presenters knew their job. Probably the best Breeder’s Cup meeting I can recall.

Also was good to hear from the course vet when a horse suffered an unfortunate injury

I thought it was the best ever Breeders Cup as well. I am really pleased the lasix issue has been sorted out.

The British and Irish wins helped to keep it interesting. There was one great human story. And Flightline was the icing on the cake.

The television coverage was good. I particularly liked the geeky betting analyst but I am not sure if he actually tipped any winners!

I think the meeting works better in the east. The time difference is not so bad. I also quite liked seeing an autumnal looking Keeneland rather than the harsh sunshine of California.

Well, thanks to it being ‘free to air’ on itv this was the first Breeders Cup i’ve actually sat and watched live, was impressed with the coverage and the racing was superb. Could have done with more of the American presenters though and less of Oli wandering around accosting people

It certainly brought a refreshing formula in comparison to the stale presenting on our side.

The only major gripe I had was, as Flightline entered the last two furlongs of his demolition job, the camera zoomed right in on the horse. I was virtually hovering from my chair screaming “zoom out for God’s sake”. Arghhh! 😠

Was a superb breeders cup. So much we can learn from them. They all know their stuff and dont pick favourites just going with the stats especially the speed figures. Plus nobody loving the sound of their own voice. Back to watching on mute or sporting life replays.🤣

Spot on, Mickey – once again, the mute button gets its annual night off.

Back to work for it now!

I too liked the geeky analyst guy. We could do with a guy or girl like that working the numbers over here on the telly.

Agree about the vet Nathan. There’s a positive update on Epicenter who was pulled up in the Classic. He had successful surgery to pin his leg and is up and recovering. Domestic Spending sustained a pelvic fracture in the Mile and is receiving round the clock care. Apparently more comfortable today so fingers crossed for him.

The betting analyst is named Steve Kornacki. It seems he is best known as a political analyst for NBC, crunching the numbers during elections. He became part of NBC’s racing coverage at last season’s Kentucky Derby and was the only person on their team to tip the winner.

I remember seeing him on this year’s Kentucky Derby coverage, where a lot of the audience will be people who watch one or two races a year. He gave a really clear explanation about what betting odds actually mean and what you win for your stake. Obvious stuff to dedicated racing fans but he made the maths side of it fun. I imagine he would make a great teacher.

Unfortunately I am just not sure someone like him would appeal to ITV. James Willoughy brought a geeky knowledge and approach but did not seem particularly popular on RTV with its more specialist audience. ITV look like they want a human angle rather than a maths angle, even if it just for a few minutes.

I’ve never had much interest in the Breeders Cup tbh and lose interest in flat racing by the time Ascot Champions day has finished. I’ve watched some races the last couple of years as I have entered Nathan’s comp but that’s about the only interest I have had in it.

Not sure if this is the proper place for this, but Ryan Moore has won the Shoemaker Award for an outstanding jockey during the meet. Congrats, Ryan! Great riding…

I don’t know if it’s the right place either but glad to hear it. Thanks Turkoman. Well done Ryan.
