…for a wonderful few days racing!
I missed Thursday but both Friday and Saturday were far more enjoyable than I can ever have imagined.
The course was generally beautifully turned out, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful and the whole experience was just wonderful.
My only qualms were the lack of flushing ladies toilets and the amount of filth and rubbish in the Tatts area. My friends and I spent only a short amount of time in the Tatts area but, call us Posh or intolerant, the area was horrible, filthy and generally unkempt. I believe whether you pay to get into the Tatts area of a racecourse, or pay top whack to get into the stands, you should expect the same level of cleanliness and service…am I asking too much?

However, one of the triumphs was the Red Rum Garden which was the perfect place to put your feet up and relax for a few moments between races.

However, I had the most fantastic 2 days ( I even spotted Cilla Black!) and am so so pleased I made the effort to go.

So, I would like to extend my thanks and praise to all members of the team at Aintree, to the jocks and ponies for some truly top class racing and to everyone in the crowd for a terrific atmosphere!!!
Lekha – glad you enjoyed it. Aintree is Cheltenham without having to pay £70 to be packed in like a sardine.

The toilets really really do need sorting out, I worked there a few years ago as a steward and have been as a racegoer the past few years but they really really are shocking. :(

The new stands looked very impressive on the TV.
It’s ten years plus since I’ve been to Aintree so I think I shall make the effort to go next year for one of the three days.

shame that they decided to put the new paddock as far away from tatts as possible,a good 2 furlongs id say. i would strongly recommend anyone going next year to buy a badge for the better stands. youll save on walking and avoid the sqwaller of the scousers drinking themselfs senceless

I had two tickets and hospitality for the Friday and Saturday courtesy of Betfair.
I had a choice of those two days or the Tues and Wednesday at Cheltenham.
There did not seem that there had been a lot in the way of litter collection over night and some of toilets do need some major upgrading which is suprising in this day and age.
The city does go Grand National mad and adds to the buzz.
We stayed in The Liner Hotel near the railway station and its well recommeded. The hotel is based on the theme of the old Atlantic liners that used to travel to and from the port. Well worth checking out.
Lost on the big race closest I got was the 14/1with Hills on the first 3 home being trained in Ireland.

Met some weird and wonderful guests in the betfair hospitality though they included a vicar who is on the 2% commision and a 80 year old who lumps on ‘the right’ Clive Brittain horses.

went in the tatts last year and have to agree its worth paying the extra to go in the stands. went in the queen mother stand on thursday and the earl of derby on saturday… both excellent. the queen mother stand might look a bit ancient but the facilities inside are up to date.

and also a big thank you to the veterinary staff for their care of the horses and to Charles Barnett for calling off the last race yesterday so that Graphic Approach could safely be attended too.Excellant.

Connections of Graphic Approach couldn’t heap more praise on the veterinary team if they tried – they were fantastic. GA is improving at the moment and they are hopeful he will be ok.

I was impressed by the track – it doesn’t feel as crowded as Cheltenham; the stands are very good (did the Lord Sefton stand) and I didn’t have any problems with the toilets tbh. Can’t say I had to queue once!

you did,nt have to queue because that slowed up the process of taking money of you shadow leader if they put chairs in the tatts we may have been happy sitting there and you cant have that they use the same process in the high street no seats in shops anymore it would have been nice to sit and enjoy but no and i dont expect it to change

    Hi,

I went in the WEST TIP Stand, aligned with the Last fence, both chase and hurdle.
The view was excellent, the bar area, a marqee was crowded but not as packed as Cheltenham, and had a huge TV screen.
The stand area was served by a Tote access and food wagons. The toilets were clean, never seriously packed and had attendants cleaning regularly.
OK, it was a fair distance from the winning line, but the Screen on the course was good.
The whole area had a community feel about it, the stewards and police were excellent, and having your own seat [only £15.00], was the best investment considering the scorching weather.

yep, would definitely recommend the WEST TIP stand to anyone. :)

Never been to Aintree as I’ve alway considered the National a ‘TV race’. However the course and facilities certainly look impressive on the old telly. Mind you they aren’t in the habit of showing toilet queues on BBC though.

Strangely it wasnt queues that I found to be the problem with the toilets but simply the fact that none of them flushed so they got gradually more and more disgusting as the day went on…and in the heat….:o
