Was good to hear from David Pipe the other day that Well Chief is in great form and hasn’t lost any of his old zest.

Paul Nichols’s horses are running a bit in and out at the moment and I doubt if he’ll have Master Minded fully tuned up for this 50k prize with the Tingle Creek just round the corner.

Ruby said he wasn’t quite himself in the QMCC but he still beat Well Chief quite easily but David Pipe will know if he’s going to beat Master Minded now is the time to do it.

I reckon he’ll be tuned up to the 90’s for this., Master Minded will be easy to back and an upset could be on the cards.

Master Minded could still win of course but I can’t see Ruby knocking 10 bells out of him to win this if he does need it and it comes fown to a fight.

If Well Chief does pull it off they’ll need a new roof on the Cheltenham stands <!– s:wink: –><!– s:wink: –>

It would be magnificent if Well Chief did win tomorrow after all of the injury problems the horse has had over the last few years. I know that there’s people who feel Master Minded is in a different league to WC but I don’t buy that and never have done. On his form from the 2004/2005 season when he was mixing it with Moscow Flyer & Azertyuiop – Well Chief would be a major threat to Master Minded in any of the major 2m chases in my opinion. I hope he will still be able to run up to that kind of form because it would certainly make the 2m division more interesting this season.

I think Master Minded is a different league to well chief, and MasterMinded has ground conditions right up his street. IMO he could turn up 80% fit and win tomorrow, I dont back odds on ever and this is no different, but the result is fairly inevitable and this could be the best price Masterminded is all season because of those who still see Well Chief as a threat.

A tough one to call on these terms. Overall I think Well Chief can come out on top

Quite an interesting race to keep an eye on.

MM is the quality act but with the ground being testing and Paul Nicholls horses not fully wound up yet you never know.

I don’t believe Master Minded can finish in front of Well Chief at the weights, especially on soft around Cheltenham. The PN interview yesterday wouldn’t have inspired much confidence for odds-on backers of MM where fitness is concerned, either.

Well Chief will relish conditions more so than Master Minded has shown, and I take him to reverse QM form.

    Newmill

ran well in defeat in the QM at cheltenham and put in a decent enough display last time out to suggest that a guaranteed fitness advantage and favoured ground conditions may well put him in the shake up under a positive ride.

Cheeky interest bet on Newmill E/W.

I believe this will be Well Chief’s one and only ( and probably last chance ) of defeating Master Minded.

If he can’t win this with a ten pound allowance today, he most certainly will not win at level weights come the festival.

My view is that Paul Nicholls is being rather coy about his horse’s chance. He knows more than anyone that if Master Minded beats Well Chief today, especially giving him this amount of weight, that it would send out a loud and clear message to the Pipe team – i.e. don’t bother turning up for the Champion Chase next year, you’re wasting your time.

I’ll go for Master Minded in this one.

I remember the roar from the stands at Sandown when the three of them met in the Tingle Creek.

I think Well Chief has a a big chance getting 10lbs from MM.

I still firmly believe that he ground at cheltenham this year was much quicker than many think and that allowed Well Chief to get much closer than he really should have done. I think todays conditions are close to perfect for Master Minded. I actually wouldnt mind getting a price on Master Minded to win by more than 5 lengths today…

Would love to see Well Chief win this one.

So unlucky with injuries during his career. His battle with Moscow Flyer in the Champion Chase is still fresh in the memory.

I don’t know, Master Minded has never really done it for me. A great racehorse, but I just find him, well, boring.

Kauto Star is a legend, but he’s also a flashy individual and you just know anything can happen in his races.

Denman is also very talented, but he, too, has his quirks.

Master Minded could be a victim of his own brilliance, but as an attraction, he doesn’t have that ‘X’ factor, in my opinion.

If Master Minded is anything it isnt boring, the horse jumps foot perfect, travels brilliantly and destroys fields. The 2008 Champ Chase is my favorite jumps race of all time to watch and one of my favorite races of all time. My favorite jumper in training, even though he’ll never be big enough priced for me to back him again.

Nicholls says Master Minded was injured last year and was struggling, yet still didn’t lose so you would expect a good show here.

Good win for Well Chief, owner looked really excited beforehand, Master Minded real disappointing hanging bad and drifiting over the track.

    Super! Storybook stuff

Something certainly not right with MM – hanging very badly from alfway wasn’t he. Connections must be concerned as that’s the 3rd time in a row he has regressed
