i know there are a lot to be considered but in a handicap what would you think was a very good weight movment on the plus side over 10 lbs on the negative side the same, are there any rule of thumb vdw wise looking at a horse on friday [if it runs]taking big dip in the weights looks to be set up for this race weight wise .hope i,m not going nuts
October 29, 2007 at 19:01 #122174Hi CT, I’m not quite sure what you mean but I would begin by establishing why the weight to be carried has changed by 10Ibs+. Has the horse’s OH Rating fallen by the same or similar amount or is the horse running in a higher (relatively speaking) class of race. I’m sure one of the VDW guru’s can help.
I know last year in Raceform’s Stable Talk the trainer of Pilca stating the intention of running the horse off a low weight in higher classed handicaps as the horse wasn’t the same when carry a large amount of lead and the plan certainly worked. Good luck anyway mate.

It’s not something you can generalise because it really depends on the individual horse.
Have a look at its past record and see where it won or ran to within 3 lengths of the winner and take a note of both the handicap band and weight it carried. You will soon get a feel of its optimum weight-range.
