Up on the week but only because of a very good first day. I lost on Wednesday and Friday and just about broke even on Thursday.

Did anyone see the Irish gambler on ITV earlier , said if you couldnt make money this week then you shouldn’t gamble …. I don’t think I’ve seen a more miserable looking guy all year …

“Did anyone see the Irish gambler on ITV earlier….”

    Yep.
I take little notice of the pro gamblers because most of time they back the real shorties and usually bet with huge stakes that the likes of us prob dont.
And, he put up Its On The Line as his main fancy today

Decent profit, first time for years, thanks to policy of placed outsiders and Stellar Story today.

Probably well down. 0 winners, a few placed best being Harsh in the Boodles. I think i said something similar last year but its very hard to make money at Cheltenham away from the front of the market. Only 5 double figure priced winners from 27 races, some of the handicaps won by ludicrously short prices considering the nature of the race. Cheltenham gets analysed to death months in advance, even the handicaps to death on weights launch. You’ll be lucky to find much value if betting on day of race which lots are restricted to. Just chuck the short things in multiples I guess.

As I said on page 1: “I wouldn’t be looking for big prices in the handicaps. Horses towards the top end of the market tend to win them.”

I can probably count on one hand a profitable Cheltenham so that’ll be 30 odd years in loss.

The Albert Bartlett has become a bookies benefit. No wonder they love it being on Gold Cup day, when turnover must be higher than on the other three days combined.

The bookies probably had their pants down this week to be fair although they did well out of Constitution Hill probably sinking a few antepost multiples and Sir Gino too not turning up and El Fabiolo.

Exactly. Bookies are already winners before the first race due to lost ante-post bets. Reckon that profit is better than usual with Henderson’s mass withdrawals.

This the first day I did not show a profit.
Had The Jukebox Man held on in the Albert Bartlett it would’ve been the best day of the four.
Can’t complain. Showed a healthy profit on the week.

Don’t forget the reason many punters had good value ante-post bets and winning bets is those ante-post non-runners. Our great leader Mr Chezza got 6/1 State Man. Had Constitution Hill not been originally in that market State Man himself would’ve been a short price… And had Hendo’s hero ran the 6/1 bet would in all probability been lost.

Punters do gain themselves from other punters misfortune.

I was up on the week because of my choices on the day. My antepost book, with the exception of Protektorat, was a bit of a write off.

I doubt I will bother much with antepost in future.

After a brilliant 10 or so days leading up to it, I’ve just had my worst festival of all time. I’d say I’m down quite a bit and no way am I doing a countback lol.

Just the 2 winners and all I can say is, thank God for Dan Skelton.
    Langer Dan and Protektorat.
