Which jp O’Briens horse won a barrier trial here in August and has been given plenty of time to train on after not firing in a maiden.

It may be best to go for place money here as there is another runner in the race with a 1000 guineas entry but
    Maeve Of Connaught
Was third behind corvigilia and limit de grecio both of those went on to land black type and the form is strong from a race run on good ground franked by subsequent runs from both horses.
Maeve Of Connaught Johnny Murtagh’s horse has not been seen since and his rival was placed on soft ground.
For me Maeve Of Connaught is the call
Im going for win, I feel Maeve Of Connaught can at least grab a top three in this contest despite an absence since the summer stepping up to the mile.

Slipped below winning mark for only second time. Last time was a neck second off a pound lower than winning mark, quickly pushed up to mid 90s where has remained. Recently run off 88 on turf. Drawn in three. Stall data suggests stall 7 average winning stall last eight years….

On a hattrick now after wins at laytown and lately here stepped up to 11 f after winning over 7 on the beach dropped backed down to 7 tonight.
Very well treated able to run off all weather mark ten lower than turf. Runs off 62 raced off 30lbs higher in heyday. Must have place claims here if allowed to dominate again.

    Dundalk

    Knock Flyer
Is a bit of an enigma and was a beaten favourite last time on turf.
Often misses the break but if he ever puts a measured run in could figure here.

Sand and water gets in as a reserve and gets into the group of runners isolated at the top of the handicap.
    Sand and water
    Lady De Vesci
    Anglo Saxson (IRE)
    Alhaajeb
    Chimeric
    Combination tricast

    No joy today.
I read through High Taylors selection at dundalk and it was a non runner but Hugh’s rationale for the Choice was surprising..
“Estidhkaar has the same number of winners (15) on turf as on the all-weather, but from 230 runners compared with just 110 on the all-weather, so his lowly 6.5% strike rate on turf compares to 13.6% on the all-weather.”
No it doesn’t. There is just one all weather track in the whole of Ireland! So of course the rate is going to be much higher. On reading that pearl of wisdom I know I will often have an angle over Hugh at Dundalk, unless he puts up the favourite. Dundalk is unique and if one is prepared to put in the yards in studying it the results will follow.
Joseph O’Brien provided the sole winner 11/1 into 6/1 in the opener…. The other intriguing angle in Irish racing is the reserves who are included in the handicap (and the draw in flat racing) and wether they run or do not run has a bearing on the outcome of all races.

Difficult to fully assess and would have to be good to give weight away.

Marion’s Boy kicked for home early on the home turn out wide and won comfortably.
Had insurance at up to five places. It isn’t Betfair, but happy with the place money.

    Watching brief 1220 ascot
Go Sacre go has been heavily backed but there is value in this four runner affair. 10s into 11/4.
Will be intriguing to see if the money stays in the satchel for a race Nicky Henderson has won twice recently.

    12 noon Gowran
I’ve put Barcardys up each way on the soul selection to spring a suprise.
Bob Ollinger is massive odds on and would be no suprise to see him waltz away with this, but a slight question mark over two non appearances.
    Barcardys
Has not run over big fences for three years and has disappointed each time. Must be a reason to persevere with this high class hurdler over fences.

“Tempo Chapter Two (Danny) is also making his hurdling debut and his schooling has been very good. He is fit from summer racing and has been working great at home. He should give a very good account of himself here.”

I love reading up and viewing the performances of the french horses.
The hurdles are much more of a solid proposition and listed form is just that. Another french winner as Saint Felicien asserts readily on debut for Gordon Elliott.

Exceptionally good figures showing a place rate which runs in sequences form franked by several horses this weekend and a good second last time out. Ilmig Autumn evening and flying Scotsman among them to count as markers.

    Exeter 3pm
    Wrong Way Harry

Second run since joining yard from Michael winters.
First run was over a longer trip. Back to 2 miles now which has suited in the past and several decent runs behind well handicapped rivals over in Ireland this summer.
May need to get mark down a little as handicapper taken no chance as is often the case with Irish recruits. May be holding on to maiden tag a little longer but good run here no suprise.
