Hi,
I’m hoping somebody like Adrian can help out here but to all of you kind people: –
Does anybody know the best way to watch the festival from the east coast ?
It’s a working trip so I wont get chance to view during the day and will be around 3 or 4 hours behind so by the time I’m finished it will all be over – although the way my selections have been running lately I might get chance to see one or two just crossing the line in the last.
I will be able to get my bets on before I leave each morning but haven’t the scoobiest how I’ll be able to watch them in the evening.
I’ll have my laptop but will be in a hotel room so can’t record etc. I also doubt I’ll be able to pick up UK replays / highlights of the racing.
P.S. For obvious reasons – Ideally I wont know the results when I’m watching.
Cheers, Lee
January 28, 2008 at 13:24 #138402You should be able to pay for the races on a race-by-race basis from the RP site. It would be difficult to do that without catching a glimpse of winning connections on their homepage though.
January 28, 2008 at 14:10 #138413I know it’s not quite the same but you’ll be able to listen to the races through the BBC website.
Their i-player lets you listen again to shows that have already been broadcast so you’ll be able to listen to 5live’s coverage delayed from the afternoon.
The races are also likely to be on You Tube within hours of the race being run but it will be hard to avoid the results.
The Channel 4 racing programme may also be on 4OD which replays Channel 4 shows but you may have to be in UK to watch that.January 28, 2008 at 17:55 #138441Radio wise http://www.sportinglife.com give live commentary on every UK race every day…..You cant watch RP live from outside the UK….Your IP address would tell them you were not in the UK

You can watch channel 4 on line at this website. It says you have to be a UK resident to register, which I assume is fine for you. You would need to look into whether you could access this website online from the USA as Im not sure about that.
January 28, 2008 at 18:36 #138446Thanks all for your responses.
I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I’ll have to watch the races already knowing the result as I certainly wont be able to watch them live – unless my new company is particularly lenient

My best option is to try You Tube as a search for the race names may take me to a recording that doesn’t have the winners name as part of the title.
Was hoping for some US T.V station showing highlights on the evening – not asking for much I know !
Oh well.
Thanks again.

January 28, 2008 at 20:53 #138486Do you have sky at home????
If so you can stream tv through to a laptop with one of these http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/ … egory_oid=
they are called a slingbox…. you can watch your sky channels anywhere in the world with itJanuary 28, 2008 at 21:14 #138497Sorry – I’ve had a similar problem in Dubai beforenow when I’ve wanted to watch Cheltenham (pre streaming days).
Also when I was at Breeders Cup we tried to watch the rugby in America and it was incredibly difficult because every site knew where we were dialling in from.
I like the idea of the Slingbox and have often thought of buying one. If you do get some luck in the States with one let me know and I’ll definitely buy one!
January 28, 2008 at 21:19 #138499I use the Slingbox, its great. One potential problem with it is the TV its connected to at home will show the same channel as the one your watching on your laptop. Hope you family likes horseracing….
January 29, 2008 at 09:26 #138590Nice one Racing Girl / Cavelino. This sounds hugely promising.
Fortunately I have a Sky HD, SKY + and normal Sky receiver in the house, all connected in different rooms plus a wireless router in the main room for connectivity to the box from wherever I decide to place it.
From reading the reviews of the Slingbox I’ll be able to set the recording of each days RUK (or channel 4 or both) and control the TV Planner from my laptop of an evening thus playing back my recording(s).
Looks like it may also work on my N95 as the Slingbox boats compatible mobile phone support but that’d just be a bonus.
Thank you.
Also thanks to Triple Crown – if anything goes wrong with the above plan I’ll be onto your You Tube recordings mate.
Adrian – I’ll give you an update when I’m over there. When I’ll also get chance to try it out for Aintree as I’m gone for 6 weeks

January 29, 2008 at 13:23 #138646Here you go Ricky.

The reviews at the bottom make for interesting reading.
You can get more expensive versions that allow HD signal etc. but to be honest I’ll be perfectly happy with this model.
Will obviously still shop around though.
