So VVM’s original target was a Grade 1 hurdle over 2 miles, going right-handed, and now may be a 3-mile chase, going left-handed. Am I the only one who finds this perplexing? Or is she the most versatile ever?

Yes, i was just going to say that. After last years “vatourgate ” it looks like no info is coming forward from the Mullins stable.
December 23, 2016 at 18:58 #1278260The stable seems to have really shut up shop this year after last seasons mess. Mullins is making is entries then radio silence. You can guess all you wants lads but nobody will be told anything about targets until Willie makes his final decision. Ruby has give opinions and Rich was more careful on On the line a few months back.
Any type of Mullins antepost betting is deadDecember 23, 2016 at 19:54 #1278275The Vautour debacle left scars on many punters and will never be forgotten. It shattered antepost bets on two of the biggest races at the festival. There were frequent whispers and rumours that it might happen and the yard offered no credence whatever to those, thus reassuring punters. In reality, those rumours had their foundation right at the heart of the Mullins operation. The whole carryon has left a stain on the yard and its reputation for openness and good communication. The free ride he got from the press afterwards was shameful.
I wouldn’t be surprised if, given the chance again, Willie would make a different decision. I suspect he realises he’s been badly wounded by it.
