We had a great visit up to Lucinda Russell’s yard at Arlary Stables yesterday (16th July) to see Outlaw Tom in the stable and to watch him do some of his final prep work before he runs next Friday at Southwell.

He looked in great shape and, according to everyone at the yard, has really settled well since moving to Lucinda.

He is a lovely, kind horse who is a little shy but quite amenable and gentle. He’s pretty big, certainly has the size for chasing, and is impressive enough to look at, with a fine head.

He has a good stamp of quality about him and I think Lucinda and Paul (Brierley, who runs the Milnathort Racing Club which the TRF Owners Group have shares in) have done a fantastic job in securing him for only £5k.

After we’d said hello to him in his box he headed out to do some clockwise and anti-clockwise spins around the circular sand gallop under work-rider Darrin Robson. Tom seeemed to enjoy himself (as you can see in the pics below) and Darrin reported afterwards that the horse seemed in good form and gave him a really good feel.

The plan now is to run on Friday in the 2.55 at Southwell – The Gary & Andrea Wedding Day Novices´ Handicap Chase. A few dangers in there but hopefully the race will cut up a little and there will be a small-ish field. He’ll go there with every chance after his brave run last time, where he valiantly chased home a well-handicapped Pipe horse at Perth, paying the price for trying to chase the winner when losing 2nd/3rd close to home.

Feel free to get in touch (<!– e –>david@theracingforum.co.uk<!– e –>) if you’d like to join us in the TRF Owners Group and I’ll send full details on how you can get involved.

Here’s some pictures from yesterday –

This is Molly – she likes to make sure everything at Arlary is tickity-boo. On arrival she’ll give you the once over, letting you know that she knows you are there and that she’ll be keeping one eye on you. She then gets about her business of making sure everything is going along the way it should. Then, once the horses are safely back in the stable and everything has settled down for the day, she spends the afternoon vainly chasing the swallows and other birds that swoop around the yard and surrounding trees. The happiest dog in the world I think.
