This race could well be Sprinter Sacre’s biggest test to date. A wiser Nicholls/Walsh team will surely go a bit of a steadier pace and a fresh Somersby could also ask some serious questions.
January 15, 2013 at 18:39 #426427I agree to an extent, but SS wiped the floor with Sanctuaire last time on pretty testing ground. His odds of 1/6 makes me want to look elsewhere though, and there may be some value in Somersby at 7/1. He can be high class on his day and won this race well last year…only downside is that he prefers good ground. Looking forward to seeing SS again though, could be a once in a lifetime horse.
January 16, 2013 at 20:13 #426564It’s probably a penalty kick(with no goalkeeper) for SS. Would love Somersby to somehow extend him but can’t see it.
January 17, 2013 at 12:33 #426638I’ve taken the 6/4 (NRNB) with Bet 365 about Sanctuaire w/o Sprinter Sacre.

January 17, 2013 at 18:39 #426660Somersby will be out of his depth against Sprinter Sacre. Barring a fall, SS will win this contest hand over fist.
January 17, 2013 at 18:51 #426661I doubt the race will be on looking at the weather forecast…
January 22, 2013 at 12:34 #427102Can’t have Sanctuaire, and Somersby is an Ascot specialist in my eyes, would have someone like Kumbeshwar to fill the forecast again.
January 25, 2013 at 16:49 #427409I’ve backed Sanctuaire each way @ 16/1 for the Champion Chase, but at just 13/2 doesn’t look big enough to me. Especially when there’s a chance he’ll refuse to race. There’s also the negative that Sanctuaire is a front-runner, so will probably at some stage get in to a battle with Sprinter Sacre. The others can be ridden "for second place". In fact, wonder now whether I should have backed him for the Festival at all.

Somersby’s very best recent efforts have been at Ascot. But that may be a little coincidental. It’s equally possible he needs to be fairly fresh and gets bored with racing. Even so, his Cheltenham form isn’t that bad. Hasn’t won, but those races have been top quality. If Somersby runs to form, then Williams Wishes will need to improve considerably (which is possible, but imo not "probable") to keep the (now) Mick Channon trained gelding out of the frame. Change of stables must be a positive. 12/1 looks generous.
The others don’t look up to grade 1 company. When there are effectively four horses running for three places it makes each way betting advantageous to punters.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 25, 2013 at 20:56 #427459im sweet on saintuaire but his style of running from the front isnt going to beat SS. The only way I can see to beat him is a very slowly run race and if it is maybe just SS goes to the front then turns on the afterburners. SS doesnt seem to settle although its more of a prob for saintuaire. If another horse gets SS pulling early into a duel and saintuaire gets a lead and finally settles then just maybe but SS in his last couple of races seems to settle more in behind and just cruise along with that effortless high crusing speed.
Maybe if he gets caught for toe coming up the hill it might happen but it will be more luck than anything. Looking forward to it but maybe theres a horse that can challenge him at chelt that wouldnt be able to anywhere else because of the hill. Nothing is a cert
January 25, 2013 at 23:35 #427486Not one of the greats over fences won every time but the only thing i see beating Sprinter Sacre tomorrow is the weather.
A slip is his biggest enemy.January 26, 2013 at 14:38 #427569This was no more than an exercise canter for Sprinter Sacre. He is a sight to behold when in full flight.
Yes, he is unbeaten, but let’s be thankful that he won’t have to concede the best part of 3st to his nearest rivals, as Arkle and Flyingbolt had to.

January 26, 2013 at 15:41 #427580Fantastic horse, no other words.
January 26, 2013 at 15:57 #427585Sublime.
Nothing will beat it.
January 27, 2013 at 13:27 #427702There doesn’t appear to be any chinks in Sprinter Sacre’s armour at all now. He handles any going, any tactics and any type of course. He is also, without doubt, the best looking chaser you will ever see. For once the cameras nearly caught just how magnificent this horse looks in the flesh.
January 28, 2013 at 19:20 #427820an awesome powerhouse of a horse- they simply can’t go fast enough for him.
like all greats he makes the game look easy.
