Devastating news to wake up to. 11 time Group 1 winner and Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant has died as a result of foaling complications at only 8 years old. Her filly foal by Sea The Stars also passed away.
Heartbreaking news she was three weeks overdue and foal breached. So couldn’t give natural birth the damage internally from foal thrashing was to much and VE couldn’t be saved

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...Oh how sad, poor mare. When foalings go wrong they go wrong very fast and very badly
Very sad to read this. I always remembered her as the superstar horse that came to Europe, but failed to make an impression. Winning the Arc for an Aussie horse is even tougher than winning the Melbourne Cup for an European bred horse.
May she and her foal rest in peace.
Oh my goodness, that’s horrendous news. What an awful thing to happen. Devastating to lose a beautiful, talented mare like that along with her foal. Heartbreaking for all connections.
